There are 2 issues to address here.
1) Moderation of users. This is a free site, yet it is also a private site. All members read and accept the TOS when they register on a forum, or am I the only one who reads stuff that I sign? This is a free country and the owners/moderators are free to ban/suspend any account at any time with or without giving a reason. If you have a problem with that...you are free to create your own forum.
2) Live feeding issue. Yes, many people feed live without any issues. Yes, many people leave their children in their cars for 5 mins while they run into the store to grab something and their child is perfectly fine. Does that mean I leave my child in the car because others have done it safely? HECK no! As a responsible parent (or in this case pet owner) I'm going to spend the time/money to research and do whatever possible to ensure that my child/pet/whatever will have the best possible life and be free from injury.

Sorry, missed that. Please refrain from negative comments about other sites.

I HATE that statement more then anything. This is the last snake I found "in the wild". Not exactly the conditions I want to provide for MY snake. This poor thing didn't even have a chance. Don't know what happened to it, prey, bird, car, IDK, but it doesn't matter. More snakes "in the wild" end up like this versus becoming healthy, full grown adults.

OK...I admit it. I'm an evil dictator. Or at least come across that way to trolls looking to start trouble. Giving advice that is harmful to someone's animals is trouble. Don't be that guy.
Live v/s FT ...not exactly a new debate but why would someone try to convince others that live is better than f/t when even the live feeders have to admit that f/t is safer. Even if you happen to have that one in 100 million snakes that won't eat f/t...what do you have to gain by trying to convince everybody that is taking great care of their animals and feeding them f/t to switch to live? Do you just need reassurance that you aren't a total screwup? This is all akin to someone running around screaming that smoking is perfectly safe if done responsibly. Just because you say it and add an "if" factor doesn't make it so. Smoking is not safe and there's no way to smoke responsibly that would ensure your safety. Live feeding rodents to snakes is not safe and there is NO WAY to feed live rodents to your snakes responsibly that will ensure they are safe. All it takes is one bite sometimes to kill your snake. You can't react quick enough to stop it and even if you could, you wouldn't know you need to till it's too late. Even if the live rats were altered in such a way that they can't bite by some sadistic method that would surely be an animal cruelty case if you are caught...there are still parasites. Freezing kills them. Please argue that it doesn't. I love beating that particular dead horse....
So there you have it. No one is going to be banned for feeding live or being stupid. However trying to encourage others to feed live or attacking those who are promoting f/t for no reason other than justification of your own misgivings is not going to be tolerated. Willfully handing out bad/dangerous advice will shorten your stay here. | |
