Anyone else get a email with these pics?
The email didn't say anything, and I am still trying to figure out where it came from. My sister fowarded this to me today. She is trying to figure out the original source (if possible).
BTW there was no story to go with these

Those teeth look like they could do some real damage. Also is it just me or so I see 4 rows of teeth on the top of the mouth?

Yeah thats 2 rows of teeth. Every boa and python and most other snakes have them. The row on the outside holds the prey, the row on the inside move back and forth pulling the head of the snake over the prey. Its how they are able to swallow without having any arms to push it down with. Look at the top of any boa or python it has it.

Yeah, I've seen it too. I think the article I saw, said it was dead when they took the pics. Sad for sure, but it is a useful reminder of what they have in their mouths.

While not entirely accurate (They don't move back and forth. They are fixed.) They do have double rows of teeth up top. The inner row doesn't meet in the middle up front though. It's just a couple of extra little straight rows for added swallowing traction. All the movement that works the food down is head wiggle side to side inching it down and working one side of the jaw at a time gaining ...well...you've all seen them eat. Some of the snakes with enlarged teeth do use the front fang like teeth to help walk the prey back but that's the outter row.Tree boas have it mastered to a fine art and it's pretty interesting to watch if you ever get the chance without bothering the snake while it's trying to eat. I guess it comes in handy when dangling upside down from a branch trying to swallow something up.

The picture with the mouth wide open is pretty cool.
It is just a shame that the animal had to go this way.

If someone would have told that snake about proper prey size, it may not have gotten shocked when going under the fence.
Seems that when shocked, it turned to try and take out the agressor, and managed to take itself out instead. Sad story, and a beauty of an animal.
Old thread, I know, but since it got bumped.........

I seen those pics on fauna classifieds, somebody was trying to sell the snake even, not telling them that it had already been killed. I think it's still on there under african rock python.

Hi, if you're still looking for the story that goes with the picture, I think I know it. I received the email some time ago with the following story. A farmer noticed his sheep kept mysteriously disappearing but he could never figure out why. So he put an electric fence around the property, and the picture is what he found. I do not remember the locale.
