Tortoise friends

Hi, about 6 months ago I got a rescued russian tortoise that has made her way into our personal collection forever, we fell in love. I have never kept this species but she is doing fine, experience in other turtles and tortoises and books paid off. She is also now parasite free according to the vet.
Anyways a friend told me you should never keep just one alone. She is really friendly and *seems* to like company of people and surprisingly cats, but I was wondering if I really should get another tort of the same species to be with her. If I do it should be female I am guessing because I am not comfortable breeding tortoises yet, not enough experience with torts to breed I feel. Well just let me know your opinions, so far I am kinda looking for another homeless or in need russian tort female as her possible friend but not doing a lot of major searching.

I'm by no means an expert on turtles and torts. But ive been told they really should be seperate. @ males for sure cant be together, they actually get quite nasty to each other. male and female are kida ok to keep together, but some males get REALLY agressive and bite the females when trying to court them. And actually 2 females CAN be a problem because sometimes one female can develope into a very dominant animal and actually will act like a male. I've heard this with Box Tuertles. Not sure if it still holds true to torts too.
