Just some recent turtle pics.
Took a few pics of turts here and there, figured I'd post some before I collapse from sheer boredom.

Little Soft Shell, a Pallid I believe (Apalone spinifera pallidus).

Australian Snake Neck (Chelodina longicollis)

African Mud Turtle (Pelusios subniger), sometimes called the African Side Neck.

Diamondback Terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin), northern? I'm not up on my terrapin ssp.

And a pretty little Desert Box Turtle (Terrapene ornata luteola).

Awesome Pictures! Is the Australian Snake Neck similar to the African Side Neck?

There is no relation between the species to my knowledge. There are several different types of side necks and snake necks.

oh MAN! *all* of your pics are AWESOME! just beautiful kodak moments! i especially love the diamond back terrapin's look on his face and the african mud is great, too! i will always have a special place in my heart for snake-neckeds, too. i did undergrad research on the roti island snake-neckeds (chelodina mccordi) last year which involved observations at the local zoo. i got to go behind the scenes and hold them and scan their id chips and everything. i loved it!

Awesome pics, I just adore the softshells and box turtles. I am buying some spiny softshells this spring from a guy, I may keep one for myself if I can find the tank space, the others are going to our nature center. Possibly my second fave turtles, first is common snappers... little dinosaurs. hehehe

Light over the tank, no flash, no backlighting, natural daytime room ambience, and lots of patience. The key is to make sure your shot is taken at an angle so you don't get any reflections at all. Including yourself and the camera lens.

People keep telling me I somehow photoshopped the snake neck one... they -really- are that weird looking.

I love the snakeneck eyes.
When I was about 9 years old, I found one wandering the busy streets of Brisbane. Took it home and for months I kept it in our chlorine swimming pool. At night I would put it in the shower recess.
Until one night, I forgot to put it away and my Father came home about 10pm, decided to go for a nicky swim and felt something, that wasn't him, between his legs.
I didn't know they could fly, but this one did. Across the road and into the park and I never saw it again.
