Rescue
Got this guy for free from our favorite reptile store. The store owner said he needs a lot of rehab, which is very evident by his crazy bad pyramiding.
He is a ten pounder, very friendly, and loves the outdoors! He is eating well so far, although he is pulling weeds in my yard (dandelions) which I am thankful for, but he isn't so into grass yet. I'll have to try some different types!
Poor guy, I am hopeful to use him as an educational animal, as he is very friendly, and has quite the story to share about poor husbandry.

Re: Rescue
Thanks...I thought so too! It is really sad though to think that someone did not research the species and has caused him such substantial physical and mental problems. He is so sweet, and just watching him makes me wonder how anyone could so blatantly ignore the problems he has. This is among the worst case of pyramiding I have ever seen
I know that a sulcata is not my dream pet....I prefer not to own animals that I cannot lift...but I am prepared to offer him a life better than the one he had before. I really hope, as a teacher, I can spread the message that this species does not belong in most homes, and that even though they are a cheap tortoise, doesn't mean that they are a good pet.
Have a great Sunday!

Re: Rescue
Wow. It's really great of you to take him in and give him a good life from now on. I adore turtles and tortoises, they are so unique in evolution and appearance. His pyramiding is quite spectacular!!!! But I am sure he is now in the best of care. Got a name for him yet?

Re: Rescue
If I may ask why does pyramiding happen? I know it is a bad thing but what causes it. Still a wonderful turtle. Hopefully now that he is in better hands he will be able to live a long life.
