guess what?

we got a new condo for the turtles!! the LFS was having a sale on used tanks, this tank is the stand with 60gal "seamless" bowfront tank, for $60!! there is a catch though, it has a little leak on the bottom but the husband is confident that he can fix it, if not, im gonna be very upset LOL.

i do have a question though, do you think we will be able to mix the bigger ones with the new small (and possibly stunted) ones? if yall remember, we got the two little ones on craigslist from someone who didnt have time to feed them. the small ones are actually a little older than the big ones

(and no its not gonna stay bare LOL)

Re: guess what?

umm.. well, that many turtles in a tank that size, it's gonna get real dirty real quick :P

I use 2.5x the filtration needed for my tank, and it still gets nasty, LOL. (and I've only got 1 turtle! haha)

I have seen large turtles pick on smaller ones, I honestly wouldnt put them in the same tank together if I were you. I suggest keeping the real small ones seperate, if not just to make sure they're getting adequate food and such.

Re: guess what?

thats what im scared of, the big ones picking on the little ones. the filter we have for them now is a canister filter supposedly good enough for 100gal. we will prob just end up putting a second canister filter on there, we will have to see how dirty it gets LOL.

Re: guess what?

If your hubby can't fix the leak, you can always convert it into a terrarium!

Re: guess what?

canister filter is your best bet for that size tank. Good luck with all your little and big guys!

Re: guess what?

I agree with sam, it isn't a real good idea having the smaller ones in there in rather close quarters. Plus that's a lot of turtles for that one tank. The two bigger ones should do fine in it, though, or vice versa until they outgrow it.

I've had success with keeping smaller ones in with bigger ones... but then again my turtles also have a huge pond and lots of space to spread out and places to hide. I still wouldn't recommend it though, especially with aquariums, even huge ones.
