Ok so i came home with the turtles :)
I met the chic this afternoon with the turtles. they came with two 10gal tanks, some air pumps, several filters, tons of basking rocks, lots of fake plants, some baby turtle pellets, and maybe some other random stuff. overall, it was a great deal cause i know how much all that stuff costs.
the turtles look good, but there are some spots on their bottom shells that kinda make me wonder.....their shells dont feel soft at all though, so thats good their coloration is normal, except the little spots on the bottoms, which might be normal, idk. i think we figured out why they havent grown, i dont they they had a basking/heat lamp at all!! and they werent being fed enough, but that will certainly change here. they had the rocks to bask on, but no lamps.
anywho, here are some pics of the new guys:
ok here is a pic of the spots, they are kinda brownish in color:
and here is for a size comparision ( i know, the quarantine thing, but seriously....they are all about 1.5 years of age, and there is a huge difference in size). the big one is our largest RES, the other two we have are a little smaller than her. the two new guys are both the same size.
now off to setting up a nice tank for them!! if anyone has an idea what those brownish spots are, let us know

Re: Ok so i came home with the turtles :)
The brown spots look normal to me, they overall look healthy, but yes, dear god they need heat, UV and lots of food. I'm glad you got them.
Any new turtles I get I usually only quarantine about a week to observe them closely, check them over for any fungus, etc... I haven't had any problems introducing new turtles to my gang. Unless the new turtle is extremely unhealthy, then I keep it in its own enclosure/tank until its better.

Re: Ok so i came home with the turtles :)
yea im gonna keep them together in one of the 10gal tanks, separate from ours, they sure are small enough for now. they do look good and they are acting normal, so im happy turtles are just so cute im not gonna put them in with my big guys until they are of similar size. i think mine will just bite them or try to eat them, the way those guys are
i have an awesome plan for the turtles for after we move they are gonna have a super cool large pond-type thing that we will prob end up making ourselves

Re: Ok so i came home with the turtles :)
Nice lil' setup. They might be shy for awhile but hopefully they'll warm up to you. A pond will certainly be great for them, my guys love theirs.
