Introducing: Alice :)

First of all I want to thank DaveDragon for allowing me to give Alice a home here where she will stay for life.

For those of you who may or may not remember, DaveDragon had posted a thread about having troubles with his red-eared slider:

So after arranging the shipping and all by sending Dave one of my insulated shipping boxes with supplies and a shipping label for sending back to me, she arrived two weeks ago to my mom's work (since FedEx checker couldn't find our home address, even though they've delivered here plenty before, so I arranged to have it delivered to my mom's work to eliminate that funky risk) where she spent the day free of the shipping box and in a container with water. She was a popular little attraction to everyone at work. lol One of my mom's bosses came in later and said, "So how's o'l Alice doing?" So that's how she got her name.. and it stuck, but it's a cute name that suits her.

Two weeks ago when I was home for one day on Wednesday (when she arrived) she stayed inside my herp building in a rubbermaid with water as a little "quarantine" until I was done with the rest of my class field trips that week. She wasn't real skiddish at all and ate some food when she arrived and didn't seem stressed at all by her day's adventures. She was checked over thoroughly and observed for a week and was doing great, so she was good to be introduced to the rest of the gang outside. She gets along well with them, as they all do.

These pictures were taken yesterday. She gets spooked sometimes but overall she's getting used to the human activity that goes on around the yard, so she allowed me to walk up. She probably never had the luxury of a pond or real full blown sunlight before in her whole life, but she was certainly enjoying it and taking advantage of the nice hot day it was yesterday.



Alice basking amongst another larger red-eared slider, Myriah, and red-bellied cooter, Ruby, who is about 12 inches carapace length and whom I've had for over 10 years.

What a good ending to your story, those wonderful pictures by the pond. Once again, I envy you your beautiful grarden and pond!!!!

yeah i cant wait either, we actually had to down size our pond because we had a hole in the one, but congrats on adding to ur collection!

Haha mines about the size of a half dollar maybe a little bigger.

Not an odd question at all.. lol

Ruby is my biggest turtle at around 12 inches carapace length, she's a Northern Red-bellied Cooter (pseudemys rubriventris rubriventris) and she's the biggest one you see in the one picture with all the red/orange on her shell.

I have a common snapper also but he/she is only about 6-7 inches.

Biggun! I would get an RES but the snapper is going to be my only turtle fronm now on. I chose to commit myself to it and Im going to make sure it has a full life..
Plus I live across the street from a ditch where Ive seen giant RES' and A
30+ snapper.
I like my little guy a lot! Not for everyone.
