New Red Ear Slider owner... Advise?
I'm getting two sliders tomorrow. They are babies, a little bigger than a quarter I was told.
They come with a complete set-up. What I was told about it and what I have read, it seems to be complete anyway.
I had a painted turtle when I was kid. It was wild caught for my by my cousin, and I had it two years before my mom made me turn it loose. So I'm not completely ignorant on turtles. I already read all the care sheets I could find, but some first-had advise is always good!

Shallow extremely clean water and proper temps are the most important things for babies.

Re: New Red Ear Slider owner... Advise?
turtles in general are a lot of work. If i could have chosen a turtle i'd get someting that stayed smaller. I have a red eared slider from a friend who didnt want him anymore. You need a really good filter, you have to do water changes constantly and they need a lot water and space when they are adults. So to have two would be even more work! They really like deep water, and it needs to be clean, but turtles are very messy. One or two would need a 75 gallon or larger as adults!

Re: New Red Ear Slider owner... Advise?
Most of my 15 turtles are adults, I keep them in two large fiberglass ponds indoors during the winter and use large pond filters. They're kept in an even larger pond outdoors during the warmer months... if you setup the ponds right with some live pond plants, only the filter needs cleaning every week to few weeks.
