Well a lot more thyan that needs to be taken into consideration as to exactly what chelonian would be a good starter one for you actually. tell us what you know and what you have available for hopusing the critter for starters. Keep in mind also that chelonians can live a VERY loooong time !

Are you still looking? I know it's been a bit long ...

Many people tend to go for Red-eared Sliders, because they are commonly available and cheap, and also seemingly popular. Actually, they are quite aquatic, and therefore, in that sense, difficult. Box turtles are much easier, because they are more terrestrial, hardy, friendly and just as easy to feed. Of course, every species comes with a unique set of challenges.

Tell us more or less what you would prefer, prettiness, small size, uniqueness, etc. Turtle varieties are really wide, and there is quite literally one for every sort of person.
