Bad tortoise!!!

I wanted to share an experience with my russian (aka horsefield) tortoise!
Today I let him have a little run around the living room.(Never again lol)
It was a nightmare!! He managed to find all kinds a things to get into his mouth! A pen lid! A piece of string and a coin!
It was a nightmare because each time he found something new (like the pen lid) I'd get up to get it off him and he'd try to run away with it! I caught him but he wouldnt let go? and at one point he even tried taking whatever he had into his shell to stop me taking it! ( and I think he hissed at me? )
These guys IMO are really smart cause he'd look to see where I was before trying to grab something new to run away with!
I would never of thought something so small, slow moving, with a shell on his back could be so much trouble!, lmao

I had to read that a couple of times too but my excuse is its almost 04.30am here!

Anyway I use to think tortoises were boring, slow moving etc. BUT there not, the markings on each is gr8, they got great lil personalitys, and when they have something they dont want you to have they aint so slow!! I had to do a flying tackle to get my money back off him!
BUck

You will need to tortoise proof your house before you let him explore next time. Lord knows what he will haul out when the girlfriend shows up! lol

Yours puts things in his mouth?? thats crazy!! mine has never done that. I am absolutely in love with my Russian Tortoise, his name is Stewie. I can't beleive how much personality they have. When he is hungry he claws at the right side of his cage and When he wants to come out he claws the left side. I let him out everyday for a few hours, he gets the run of the apartment. And when its nice outside, I take him for walks, everyday around 5pm I start my search for stewie around the house. Usually I find him asleep in one of my boots in the closet. I give him a good soak and a treat and then he goes to bed. Last week he dissapeared for two days, I was soo worried, I looked everywhere and then on the third day I started crying cause I thought maybe he died cause he was too cold and I turned and there he was trotting down the hallway twards me, he walked right past me to his cage and started clawing at it cause he was hungry. I fed him and he went to sleep. I love this tortoise so much. and I think russian tortoises have hands down the one of the cutest faces in the world.
