sellers beware!
I posted an ad on here a few months ago and got someone trying to scam me with the money order trick. I listed it as local pick up only and the price and got a few e-mails from someone saying they were interested and after telling him 2 or 3 times that it was local pick up, he still asked for the final price to make out the money order out to and I told him since it was local pick up that he could give me cash and I never heard from him again.

That's not typical of the old money order scam...maybe it was a scam. Maybe it wasn't. Who knows? Maybe the guy just likes paying with money order.

The wording and bad use of English is a sure sign along with wanting to send 10 times the amount with the caveat of sending the overage back. Another is asking if they can use a credit card, which is stolen (or they have the card information).
Earlier this week I got an e-mail through our on-line filter supply (breathing gas) site asking if we accept credit cards. That was my first clue as the site specifies that we do. The next clue was the bad English, the "company" being based in the UK. The third was "their client" was in Lagos, Nigeria.
In my reply, I pointed out that they could place their order on-line using a credit card, filling out the information required at checkout. I also told them that the site is secure and they wouldn't have to worry about SCAMMERS getting hold of their CC info and then trying to DEFRAUD other businesses at his expense. Never heard from him again and no order. Imagine that!

Anything that i pick up by metting a person i will pay through money order. This is so that i cant get robbed. I have learned this from my father who was robbed once while he tryed to by a used car. 3,500 in cash was taken from him and they drove off. Its just how i do things now.
