Confused Tegu or confused human?

I have always believed (because I was told by someone who has bred them for decades) that tegus will not mate if not hibernated----in fact I was told they would not mate even if kept warm for one season.
Well I guess Nico has never read this because basically he has been trying to mate with Rocco all day
I emailed Bert to ask what gives---just figured I would share.

Signed,
Confused Tegu Owner in NYC

Many times the slight drop in enclosure temperatures due to seasonal climate changes is enough to simulate hibernation.

I thought of that John but I have kept in the inside of the cage warm all winter----and the house was VERY warm as well---almost too warm.
He has been up and eating and walking about the house all winter.
This is Bert's busy season so he does not get back to me the way he would in the fall and winter---so I am axiously awaiting his reply.
Poor guy can't seem to do what he is trying to do because she is so fat and big---it's comical

Well basically what I was told that Nico (and many other tegus) are possibly on some sort of biological clock rather then a temp controlled one. By next year this might change. This is his first sexually mature spring---so he might still be on "tegu-time" as far as his libido.
So, it's possible I might have some eggs.
I honestly was not looking to breed---this is why I went to great lengths to keep the temps up.
Mother Nature it seems, doesn't care about me and my temps
Well I will keep you all posted in any case.
