Help Need HELP with Tegu at work!!!!

Im at work right now and if anyone is on that can help that would be great! We have an argentine black and white tegu at work, weve had him for about 8 months. Hes always been happy and healthy and alert. Today I came in and he is very sluggish and his 2 back legs are puffed up and swollen and hes having trouble walking. Also each of his toes are twitching really bad. Hes eating fine, but I really need someones help cause im not sure if the owner is gonna take him to the vet. Any advice would be great, I cant check this forum for about 30 mins to an hour.
Thanks so much guys!!

Re: Need HELP with Tegu at work!!!!

It would be irresponsible for the owner NOT to take him to the vet. It sounds like he may be suffering from a case of metabolic bone disease and not getting enough calcium in his diet.... but that's just a wild guess, so please, do take him to the vet, a good reptile vet.

Re: Need HELP with Tegu at work!!!!

yea, sorry.. thanks to everyone that tried to help... I only work there one day a week, but I have been talking to my manager, who is also one of the reptile caretakers. He said that he talked to the supervisor (who claims to know everything about reptiles, and treats his own when they are sick) said that he can take care of it, all we have to do is find out what the treatment for MBD is... and that it doesnt need to go to the vet..

Tremendously!!!

Dust his feeders with calcium and provide lots of UVB. A Mega-Ray or T-Rex Active UVB Heat are best. No closer than 12" though. After he recovers a ReptiSun 10.0 (we use a 48" in a cheap Home Depot shop light) will be OK but no more than 16" away since the output tapers off with distance.
