Eggs as food

My tegus love them, I break a couple chicken eggs in a bowl and scramble them a bit and serve.

Is it OK to serve them eggs a couple times a week?

Re: Eggs as food

from what i know u may want to cook those eggs first scramble or hardboil,....and i'd limit the eggs to once a week, stick with the superworms and dusted crickets in the evenings and a fresh cup of dark greens(not spinach or ice burg) in the mornings rat pinkies are good too

Re: Eggs as food

Eggs are eaten raw in the wild; I'm curious as to the reason for both cooking and the limitation?
My tegus have so far not eaten leafy stuff at all.

Re: Eggs as food

My baby beardie wont eat leafy foods either, as far as a reason behind cooking, im not sure that its necessary, also try throwing some turkey or some meat in with the eggs....maybe try scenting the leafy stuff with mice or pinkies might spark his interest!!

Re: Eggs as food

I hear too many eggs cause problems. Depending on size I would go 1-2 eggs a week max. Not sure why maybe Bobby can shed some light on this lol.

I haven't had my Columbian tegus for long, but from what I read they don't eat much leafy stuff.

Re: Eggs as food

Salmonella can often be found in unfertile eggs, this is why we don't feed raw eggs.

Soft boiled is ideal if you choose to feed eggs. Simple boil them for only 3-4 minutes.
