My children have been playing with the tegus since they were yearlings.
I would suggest bert from agama international -- Ihave bought many animals from him in the past with never a problem with delivery, health or customer service.

Yes.
Again you can read up on differences on the two at agamainternational.com..there's a whole page dedicated to physiological and temperamental differences of the two.
I feel the people who like columbians are just looking for a different type of pet. Argentine's are like little companions, columbians are more dispplay animals...they do not seek out nor do they commonly enjoy human interaction. Now I'm sure their are exceptions..there always are, but in general and on the whole that's what is known about the differences in temperament.

Monitors rock. I love them. They actually make up my favorite part of this hobby. But as far as children go, I think an argentine tegu is a better choice.

our sav is great with children, but i have heard tegu are easier to adjust to captivity. i have never seen a tegu that was just mean, i have seen many monitors that were. a tegu would have a worse bite than an ackie. how ever tegu do not seem to be as energetic as ackies and as likely to bite.
it is a toss up either way, monitors just have my heart. if you have kids you should take extra precautions with any reptiles none are guaranteed to do well with kids.
i took in a water monitor because i was told croc monitors and nile monitors were nasty. now the more i see croc monitors the more i realize i just took in a nasty water monitor. it is all just a toss up with reptiles. my retic is as sweet as can be.

after my last water i will handle anything. not only were her bites, claws and tail very dangerous but she was so high-strung she would vomit and defecate on sight of a human. she gave my fiancee and i both nice scars.
nicole my fiancee's (rachel) favorite is the croc monitor also. i can not pick a favorite varanid. i am not too found of the snub nosed pitbull look, like savs, niles, white throats and black throats. i prefer the long dragon look.

tree monitors are gorgeous but I heard you just can't handle them at all.
I have a friend who went to Komodo and actually spent the week documenting the dragons. The photos were amazing. That is the ULTIMATE lizard.
