What's wrong with feeding eggs often?
What's the problem with feeding eggs? Is it just the fat and cholestrol?
If so, then why not just feed egg whites?

My guess is a tegu. Not sure but even Burt Langenworth(didn't spell it right) says its a bad idea. www.agamainternational.com. He's a great guy. You could email him and ask why

I'm sure that if so many people here own tegus but only offer eggs as a treat, someone must at least know why? I'm sure not everyone just follows the instructions or what bert says without knowing the reason?

Also, I have researched and found out that feeding RAW unfertilized eggs is bad because it is high in avidin which destroys biotin, leading to a deficiency. But I don't see why feeding cooked egg white is bad. Can't think of any reason. I have studied nutrition for over 15 years (relating to humans, not lizards) and know basic info about lizards, and I don't see any reason why cooked egg white is bad.
Could it just be people think its a waste to not feed the yolks?

Nasty smelling liquid poop. A scrambled egg is a great occasional treat though, they love it.

Is the nastiness of the poop the only reason? Or is there a health reason of why it is bad for the tegu?

I'm not sure. A balanced diet is certainly healthiest though.

Same reason it is not good for you too eat eggs too often. It is bad for them in quantities due to cholesteral and such. Mine get eggs with the shell raw over their turkey diet, I figure that would be like in the wild eating a nest of birds. They get that a few times a month, and they love it, but if they do not eat it all WOW does my room smell. Lol, anyways hope this helps.

Raw eggs are the problem. They produce biotin deficiencies in tegus which lead to vision problems abnd blindness.
If you feed an egg --feed scrambled or hard boiled with the shell on or if feeding scrambled, crumble the shell up in the mixture. It provides a natural calcium supplement which is healthy for the tegus and some species of monitor.

Well ok I gather that the reasons are:
1) High fat and cholestrol
2) Stinky poop and room
3) Not balanced diet if only feed eggs
4) High avidin leads to low biotin levels in raw eggs
So basically I know I can feed eggs if I
1) Only occasionally feed the yolks. Remove them most times.
2) Don't care, my room stinks anyway. Feed outside the enclosure so enclosure don't stink.
3) Feed lots of other stuff together with the eggs
4) Serve mostly cooked egg with raw ones only occasionally
For those of you who serve COOKED eggs, do you serve the shells for extra calcium? Do I have to do anything to make sure they don't cut his insides? Or are they adapted to that. I don't know how to get around that if so because humans don't usually eat the shells (except Bruce Lee who did).

I have no advice to offer on your question of feeding eggs to Tegus and Bert would be the expert.. BUT, that is a very insightful comment that could be applied to a lot of situations here on the forums! Are people just 'going by the book'?
.
Kudos from me for that.
