Litter box or paper training?
Is it possible to do with an argentine b&w? Any other tips on house training them?

Well I beleave your talking about a B&W tegu it might be possible it might take some time as well a few years ago I had 5 little one that went in the same spot most of the time . my leos go in the same spot all of the time and I have had some Bearded dragons do the same thing it really makes clean up real easy so anything is possible but remember can train them like you would a puppy etc.

you can definately tach them to go outside if you walk them the same time each day....they are drawn to the grass and dirt and would much rather go outside---with paper or litter I have never known anyone (who I believe) that has accomplished it but anything is possible

It would be hard to take a tegu on a walk here in the winter. Imagine a 4 foot tegu walking in 3 foot of snow. lol That would be a site to see. I am still reading up on it. I have heard that since they use the same spot everytime that maybe putting a litter ark or cry when you step on box in the corners that it would eventually find a corner it likes and stick with it. It will be worth a try. Now just wanna find a nice adult argie black and white that I can afford. I could get a bowl made that says its name and fill it up with food for it. That would be so cool. Like a scaley dog that doesn't bits tail in the middle of the night.LOL

I've had a lot of luck with getting iguanas to paper train, I would imagine it would be pretty much the same with a tegu. I generally start with the basking spot right over the paper, so they spend time on it. Once they start going there, generally they want to return to that spot to go. Now I have my iguana's basking spot out in another room near some big windows, but he comes across the whole house to the back office to use the paper when he has to go. I had an iguana years ago that would use the cat's litter box, but that was completely accidental "training'.

I would only let the tegu be in my room and not in the whole house. I am now thinking of keeping a tegu out side in a huge pen since our new house will be out in the country on 2+ acres of land.

It would have a warm house(8' by 12') to retreat to in the colder months with basking sites and heat pads to stay warm. I hope I can get it all st up before next year so I can get a few nice ones from agamid international. Burt is a great guy and is helping me with all my questions. Hope it all works out. Any advice on outside pens would be great and well needed.
Thanks in advance
Jake
