Another new visitor
I've seen plenty of KS people I recognize on here, I had wondered where everybody went! Here are a couple photos of Vito in his new home. Hope I learn as much here as the last year on KS. Thanks everybody.

The cage is home made (too much $$ to admit and about 100 man hours) by me and my dad. The design was mine, but my pops did most of the hard work, and he did an excellent job. We worked our a#$es off in mid July when it was so hot, so we're pretty proud of it. We actually thought it was escape proof, but so far my tegu has proven us wrong twice! One time he actually maneuvered the cover on the doggy door to where he could squeeze out. Another time he just used brute force and leverage to push those big doors open (those doors weigh about 20 lbs each). So I made some changes and so far so good.
Nicolle-his name is Vito (I'm a big mafia movie fan, and his name is a tribute to the late Marlon Brando)
Here are some photos of the cage.

My tegus names are Rocco and Nico...vito is great!
My male is an escape artist too. It's not so much that he wants to go away he just doesn't want to be in a cage. He has free run of the room and basically is very happy now. The female never tried to break out of the cage---different lizards, different personalities I guess.

I am trying to get to the point where I can give my tegu free roam. He's still a bit flighty. He's still got about a foot or so left before he's full grown, so I'm hoping he is more calm later. He's not mean at all, just runs away, but there are less and less things each month that he can squeeze into, so its getting better. We actually built in a doggy door to his enclosure, and I would like to teach him about this. I wish I could find some way to get him to associate basking, sleeping, and feeding in his cage while having the option to stay outside. He will never go back to the doggy door and he just sleeps under the TV stand. Oh well, patience I guess.

yeah mine always did that. I would go on a tegu hunt at the end of the day.
Also Nico would prefer the upstairs in the old house. He would knock over the laundry basket and drag the dirty clothes under the dresser and go to sleep.
If the temps get lopw--due to airconditioning or seasons--they sleep for days in a semibrumating state.
Now they have a very large herp room to roam...and their cage is a basking station now. They calm down more and more as they grow.....and the more freedom they get the less likely they are to use all that much of it ---not sure if it makes sense the way I'm trying to explain it.
