Tegu eaten by Anaconda on Aminal Planet
Jeff Corwin was capturing Anacondas last night. He found one that was eating a tegu, poor thing. It didn't look like any of the ones available here, but from what I hear there are many species of tegu that exist in the wild but aren't available in the pet market. Explaining what a tegu was, they showed a few clips of a tegu in a tree and said that because the tegu spends most of its life on the ground burrowing, its susceptible to attacks from snakes such as the anaconda. In case anyone was wondering what the habitat was like. It was a wide open grassy, kind of flood plain that looked very much like the swamps and rivers here in Florida. Oh, and FYI, he pronounced it taygoo, just like the way I usually hear it.

A snake's gotta eat something right? Better a tegu than a native South American kid
Oh...and Jeff pronounced it correctly. Is there another common way? Teegoo or something?

I've heard it as Teegoo but never as Taygoo, but of course I've never heard it from anyone qualified to know the correct pronunciation

when I got Nico, my first tegu---I pronounced it TEEGOO--and later found out it was TAYGOO---but my children got used to saying TEEGOO and so that's how we say it here.
But the correct way is TAY-GOO.

LOL...ummm Well they come from South America so I assume the word derived from spanish so that's why I say "Taygoo".
