Vitamins

Just out of curiosity, what type of vitamin is everyone using? I've been giving Amika Repti-Vite for a while now, and she seems to be doing just fine, minus the occassional partial shed which I take care of with repti mist. I feel that vitamins are very important for her since she now refuses to eat any sort of fruit. She's on a strictly mice only diet. That doesn't sit too well with me, but the St. Pierre's said that an adult blue will do just fine on an all rodent diet. Well anyways...

What are you dusting your rodents with?

wow I don't know what to say here.
On the one hand I got my Rhino from the St.Pierres---and she's healthy and they were nice people to deal with. I would even go as far as saying I would buy from them again...because I really think they mean well.
On the other hand, I was told that the diet they gave me for my Rhino was very very bad. So bad in fact, that the people I most respect in the cyclura field were deeply concerned.
I have to say that many people feed their tegus an all rodent diet.....many though, incorporate the SDZ (Sandiego Zoo) diet into the mix---turkey, bone meal and ground up centrum vitamins etc---to help with balance and throw some fruits into the ground meat to get it into them when they are preferring meat over fruits.
It's your call but it really could not hurt to add this to his diet a few days a week.
Whole prey is really actually the best diet you can offer your tegus. But a nice mix of fruits and varied meat will not hurt---and in my opinion anyway---will generally be better.
Any photos of your blue?

Hey Nicole, thanks for the reply and the concern. She'll occasionally eat some fruit, just not as much as I would like her to. I actually did get her to eat banana out of my hand a few days ago for the first time in months. I bought some grapes and peaches and plums to try this week. I'll see if I can take some video and pics of her to post with my camera. Until then, here's a pic of her I took today with my new cell phone while I was walking her. Thanks again.

the more I see these blues the more I want one. She's beautiful!!! Try some warm grapeseed oil for bad sheds---it works wonders (makes the colors look awesome too)
