yeah that's true, but i don't mind, you have to be dedicated and i definately am ready and willing to handle it, but i'll be buying a baby so the size won't be a factor for a long time, i built a huge cage for the water monitor i don't even have yet, lol and it's a huge cage, lot's of room for him to grow from a baby halfway to a monster, and then i'll build a bigger cage, but i definately want a blackthroat, i think they're beautiful, and the Peach throat, no matter how many times i see pics of them, my mouth always drops when i see one in person, so i think i'll definately have a peach throat, blackthroat and watermonitor soon, i wish my tegu was an adult now though, i'm fiending for a large lizard lol but both my monitor and all 3 of my tegus are all juveniles, one day.....one day.... lol besides the tegu and water monitor, what other monitors or lizards do you like the most, besides Iguanas too, i see that in ur sig and avatar

I like varanus giganteus....all the monitors of Australia are awesome. I even love emeralds but they have a bad rep for being non handlable.
Of course my favorite monitor would be the Komodo Dragon and the crocodile monitor coming in a close second.....monitors really are great animals.

They are around 4 feet---Nico is an inch or so smaller then Rocco in length and much lighter--Rocco is a big girl. They just had their baths yesterday and some grapeseed oil rubs...they look great!
I love big lizards too--my two cyclura will get larger but it takes them much longer..tegus grow to full size with 18 months if kept warm and with 3 years years if left to brumate..

wow that's soo cool, 18 months? that's quick, so when are they ready to breed? I was reading Ron St.Pierre's site and it said that his 9 month old female hybrid laid eggs? i thought it sounded wrong but i guess not??i dont even know how old mine is, but he's definately pretty big, i'll measure him soon and when he gets less flighty i'll weigh him too, are tegu's usually hard to tame if they're flighty at this age? i just saw a show on National Georaphic with Dr. Brady Barr, he went to Gatorland here in Fla. and Animal Kingdom in orlando, both of those placed trained their crocs and gators to respond by name, sound and color and to different commands, amazing, animal kingdom also trained their komodo dragon AND their poison dart frogs!! amazing, i hope to train my monitors and tegu's like that soon

have you ever heard of Parrot Jungle? That's in fla too. He has a Komodo in his yard
Lizards are smart reptiles...I find monitors, cyclura and tegus to be among the most intelligent.

yeah i've heard of Parrot Jungle, it isn't close to me though, much further south, yeah that's really cool, i love monitors the most, at first it was snakes but, snakes aren't very welcomed by my parents and family, so i'm sticking to monitors, let me ask you something, you mentioned before that you use a dog harness for their leashes, i saw a dog harness today at the pet store and the inside of it was like wool, is yours like that? hmmm but yeah i think all monitors and tegus are very smart, how old are tegus when they reach their breeding size? or how big i should say??

They go into breeding mode in the spring and it's usually in their 3rd year--but it's happened sooner.
My harnesses are these:

but any small dog harness will work.

ohhh ok i'll buy one of those soon, my tegu escaped from his cage on friday, i found him hanging out behind my dresser, and all day today he has been trying to escape, he keeps kicking all the bark into a hill and tries to jump over the tank, luckily it's too tall, but he is very smart, will he stop doing this once he's tame? or is it a problem i'm going to have to deal with? lol herpetoculture, different day different occurance....
