Poo Slinging Tegu
We recently got a pair of Argentine B&W Tegus that are just adorable from St. Pierre. My question is this.. the male will poo ALL OVER whenever you grab him. They are fairly young maybe 8" including tail will this go away or is he just disgusting and I should just lay down plastic to handle him?? Thanks guys, I am tired of having to shower whenever they need something. Thanks Trina

are u sure it's not a puppy with an over active digestive system?
If it's a brand new pet and isn't used to being handled then it's most likely scared/nervous/excited and can't control his bowel movements or his bladder...shouldn't be anything serious...the more you handle him, he sould calm down a lil more..it just takes time and patience with these guys.

with lizards in general...I experience this sometimes with new captives. He craps on you--you get discusted and put him down. He gets what he wants, to be LEFT ALONE>lol
What I did with animals like this is definately wear an old shirt and handle them anyway. Approach the cage with papertowels. wipe up the mess and contininue play time or whatever you were doing. This bascially tells them that you don't care about their little secret weapon and it stops after a week or so.
Also being this species is a smart, I would begin to train them immediately to go outdoors. It will take all of one day .....very worth it!!! Post some pics for us....
(I oved this to TEGUS btw)

How do you train your tegu to like the outdoors? I've tried taking mine out 2x, and he just freaks out. I know this is somewhat typical, but do you have any special technique?

Same question. How do you potty train a Tegu to go outside...? Maybe I should check the caresheets, is it included in a Tegu caresheet we all ready have on the site?
