Help with Golden Tegu
Hi I might be getting a golden tegu. bUt I can't seem to find any info on a golden tegu. They told me not to get her confused with a B&W tegu as she is much smaller at 18" so Any one know of a good web site or care sheet? how about cage/heat/lights/food/substrate? thanks Veronica

Yeah and read this too:

Seriously reconsider your purchase. They really make bad captives and bad pets. If you want a small tegu that will be a better choice go for a blue.

As Nicole noted...I would recommend you steer clear of the Goldens. Yes they are SOO cheap and so cute and actually tame as babies...but watch out when they are older! I mean seriously! Tegus are very powerful creatures with a large jaw structure and even an 18'' one can do some damage man
Spend your money on a nice BW Tegu (Argentinian! not Colombian PLEASE)
Thanks
Don

I'm afraid I have to agree. Everything I have read says that goldens are not good captives, and every one I have seen bears that out. The little suckers bite, tail whip and attack. Definitely stick woth the Argentinians, B7W, Blue or Red. While I have heard of a few Colombian b&w's that eventually tamed, the goldens all seem to be the Lizard from #$%^$%^$%^$%^&.

Also: anything imported should be avoided.
Trust me people, if you think by saving forty bucks your getting a deal think again. Go to a GOOD breeder--and buy a baby or juvie. A GOOD breeder will be there 3 years later when you have a problem. And tegus in general are not expensive when you consider you can buy a yearling for under 100. TRUST me here.
