Ideas to help Redtailboa.net grow
Ok please dont get off topic here.
Advertising:
We need to get in Reptile Magazine somehow
Trade more banners
Put our name out at Herp Shows
Offer our caresheets to Petshops with our name on them
Website:
The theme could use some changes. If someone is willing to do a template in html for a design I will be happy to write the code
Get us on more reptile top site listings. Right now I think we are on 2 toplist

Bumping this thread. I deleted all the off topic talk to try and make this topic stay on topic.
Any more ideas? We already have a new theme in the pipeline.

You could see about getting some tables at a few herp shows, like the one next weekend in arlington, and hand out fliers and what not.

Hey Natas...are you looking for volunteers to go to herp shows and do set-ups like Donnie and I did at the Indy show, or are you looking to sponser them like reptiles does?
Have you considered getting into trading banners with non-herp related sites? Maybe motorcycle sites? I know there are a lot of bikers out there that are into snakes. (GAWD I want a bike)I mean there is a myriad of interests on this site...I love my snakes but I like to do some other things in my time too.
Are we looking to create revenue to run the site or just to spread our name? Maybe both?

How about shirts?
If they could be made up, even at someplace like cafe press, I would order at least a couple.
Shirts would be good for shows and getting the name out locally.

Hey stormy... Shirts like these for instance? http://www.cafeshops.com/redtailboa
Call me Mr. Solutions.
Shane, We can get into Reptiles Mag, but it is NOT cheap. I would think that we need a good half page or better full color add to do anything. All you creative people out there work on putting together an add for Reptiles.
I would love to start doing tables at shows again... especially now that we are no longer Fauna's baby. I will look into it and talk budget with you later... especially since I already have most of the polage and whatnot from the last couple of times.

I would be willing to do a set up at the Raleigh reptile show, usually in April/May and August/September. If that's something that can be done, I think there are alot of members in alot of states that would enjoy doing that.

I know I enjoyed it last time Donnie and I went to a show and did a display. I would be willing to do it again as well. I would love to do some shows like Atlanta, Indy, Columbus, and any shows I may not be aware of in Tenn. Anyway, I'm in to help out anyway I can.

Well here is how it is:
I would love to have people run a table at a local show and represent us.
Banner trading is also another thing I consider to help the site out. The more our name is out there the better.
I can save up some cash once we get a idea of how much advertising will cost us in Reptile Magazine
Keep the idea's coming

Somewhere or another I have a reptiles magazine advertiser's kit. I will have to either a) find it or b) call and request a new one.

I can do shows for the northeast. Manchester is a pretty big one and I was looking at the who's where and I think KLG may have there own table up here. I'll go to the New Englad Expo too. I'll try to make 500 site cards and hand them out. Shouldn't be to hard and a quick way to get your nameout. Actually I'll shoot for more than 500. See if I can't get 100 on multiple tables. I agree, we need to get into Reptile Magazine. I buy it alot and it's the most common reptile magazine out there.

I would be happy to help out and do stuff here in MD, we have a pretty much monthly show around here, in HAvre de Grace, and MARS every september. Also, I could prolly get maybe some cards or flyers to some of the local shops around town. Let me know what I can do, or what kind of presence you would like at the local show, and I would be momre than happy to help, I am almost always at it anyway.

While I'm new to this site ... I'm old in the ways of online sites.
What stands out to me as the most important thing to change, may well have been made that way.
As I said, I'm new. But it seems to me that in order to attract and keep members that are active, you need to at least pretend to be interested in what these new members have to say.
Take for instance, the ratio of reads to replies. More than 200 reads, and only 14 or 15 replies on the average post? That shows a lack of intrest. And that in itself can drive away many active members.
I manage several K9 based sites. And the most important rule we have, is "Welcome" new members.
New members don't need to wait for several weeks to be noticed. Most will not hang around to get any replies, if any are forthcomming.
Lack of intrest in new members may be the goal .. as I said, I'm new. And it does give older members the chance to pick and choose which post to answer, but it looks bad on the site to be so disinterested in posts.
100 times a post is read .. and not enough time to respond. At one site, we generate more than 175 messages in a day ... we keep active by, at least saying, "I saw your pictures .. nice dogs."
If nothing else .. at least welcome the new members, to let them know your a site that cares.
