Wild Bulls in action (brutal)

The last couple of days have seen the proper weather for Bull snake activity and this time of year means males doing what they do...

Yesterday I saw 5 bull snakes. 4 were locked in combat. One of the battles was intense enough that the victor chased the loser into the lake. The loser barely made it back to shore (the lake temp is about 50 degrees).

I timed it right again today (6 bulls in 40 minutes) and was lucky enough these two boys were more concerned with each other. I crawled through some brush on my hands and knees for these.

Check out the head on the loser...he's not having a good day.

A younger male that seems to be doing well avoiding trouble.

Thanks for looking.

Now that's something you don't see every day! Thank you so much for posting!
(I'm glad I've not observed that in wild snakes...I'd want to run for my first-aid kit!)

I would totally be wanting to do the same thing!
Someone told me of a den of wild fox pups today. I almost took the drive just to go look at 'em. I love wild animals!

Seems the smaller guy was the victor. Short snake complex!

Re: Wild Bulls in action (brutal)

Great pics! I spent a lot of my youth chasing bull snakes around the Des Moines river valley in central Iowa in the 60s. I caught a 5+ footer once, took him home for a week or so before releasing him. Still the meanest snake Ive ever encountered.
