Re: built a rat rack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well.......... i see people with huge rat breeding operations and they always have some type of paper attached to each tub. but no one shows what is written i assume that its some kind of record keeping to keep track of rats and litters. i just dont know what to put on the cards.

Re: built a rat rack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We use ours to keep track of each each breeder rat. Our cards have velcro attached to the backs and can move with the rat from cage to cage. We will move the card with the male rat when we put him to breed in the other cages. We list the dates when males were introduced, the birth dates of litters to the dames, and any other info we might think necessary. This helps us keep up with who sired who, the brood numbers of each female, and what line of morph of rat. Yes, there are lines apparently. We began breeding for our snakes and branched out to sell a few for pets to rat "fanciers" and breeders who go to rat shows. We even have one line of rats that fetch $25.00 per weened rat. we have hairless, dumbos, combos of both and a few of our own lines. Mostly my wife does the whole breeding and management of the rats. I am happy if I have a stock of both frozen and a few live for my feedings.

Old thread...I didn't even remember my flip answer. (sorry!) For sure, keep track of whatever is relevant to you...some might keep track of # of babies too, looking for the most productive breeders, etc.
