Now that is a nice looking display cage!!
Depending on the wood used, I use 5/8ths plywood it would cost me about $180 to make, but our prices tend to be lower than most of the country due to the depressed economy of this area.

i'm sorry, but i don't think the 5 layers of paint to get a mediocre camo effect is worth it :/

Ditto.
Brandon, those cages you built are the types of cages I WISH i could have and put the extra amount of money into to make them, they are really beautiful, I love Stallone's cage.

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Nice cages.... no offense, but I would prefer Brandon's cages over the camo one, but then again I just think that paint job takes away from the overall attractiveness of the cage. Do you have any pics before the paint job?

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Brandon, you already know how much I love your cages! So I don't even have to go there! And BoaGuy, yours freakin rock too!!! Those are some AWESOME looking stackables!!!!! I really like how everything is flush, instead of all lopsy looking like some.
Python guy, no offense...but $1500? If I was going to pay that much, I'd be getting my cage from CBD or J.Worlds. Just an FYI....but I guess you don't hunt where you are from? If you did hunt, then you'd know that you can camo an entire alluminum boat in less than an hour with 3 cans of paint.....using each color only once. No need for 5 layers.....just letting you know, so that next time you don't waste all that paint!

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Erm, this got a little out of hand from what I intended. I did not mean to say that PythonGuy's cages are in any way bad. His cages look awesome as well! I love ssjsmits' cages as well. I think I may have come off poorly to make PythonGuy feel as though I was criticizing him. I didn't mean for that to happen. If he can get $1,500 off of his cages, then that's awesome. I have jobs like these every so often, where I make many more thousands than I normally do, due to being a clever salesman.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If the person is willing to pay that much, then I'm more than happy to charge that much. That's capitalism! Discounts only apply to friends!

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Hey, if you can sell them for that much, more power to you.
I thought a lot about building my own cages, but I think I've decided against it. I've found one design that I drool over every time I see it, and I think once the girls get bigger, I am going to order them these! Here is a link to the cage that I want to get for Jezi. For Kobi, I would have them customize it to be no taller than 5 foot.
TROPICAL LAND & POOL
The price list says that they run around $4000, but we are talking like summer 2009.....so there's plenty of time to set money aside for these babies.
Now I just have to convince Curtis to let me spend that kind of money.......

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Oh yeah *drools* I have to just walk away every time I look at them...cause I want them now!!!!!! But it would be so pointless....since the babies are still babies. But once they are big enough to move out of their 40 gals, these are probably what they will move into. Yay!!!!! Curtis looked at them and said..."dang those are nice" and I told him the price and he didn't say no......hmmmm.....I mean, if I were to build something like that, drainage and filtration system...JUST like that one, it would probably cost almost 4k, so I'd rather just order them then deal with the frustration of trying to build that.

It wouldn't cost 4k. Just a ballpark estimate, I would say you could build the same thing for about 1k. The biggest factor would be time. That looks like a week or two's work (not full day, but with all the drying, painting, sealing, and so on).
I don't fully understand how they do the filter system, but there are other ways to make it easier to clean. The sump system is a pain in the butt.

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Time, tools, and skill.......which I don't have....not to build something that looks like that anyway. And Curtis definitely doesn't have the time. It may be worth talking to a carpenter about though.....We will just have to play it by ear when the time comes I suppose.

Re: Do Not Buy A Cage From Josh Sharp - mushu1432@aol.com
Definitely not worth doing through a carpenter, they will cost about the same if not more for quality that's not the same as theirs. They have done many of those, so their quality will be more reliable.
