I dont know. My mother said the same thing to me. I think older people are more afraid of things like that cause of the fact they was raised with out facts about the kinds of snakes we raise now a days and never experianced owning one, and that it might have a lot to do with the parental over protectiveness in them. if you don't want your kids to be the same way, you need to show them the joys of keeping snakes and your fiance should help. My fiance is very supportive of my love for reptiles. She loves them also. She was nervous when we bought the tiger retic, but it just encourages us to be more responsible. double and triple check our locked cages. Treat large constrictors like guns as safe as possible but don't fear them irrationally.

I hope when I get the chance to maybe drag him to one of the pet stores around here and try to talk him into letting me get a smaller breed of snake. Maybe if he starts with baby steps and not an almost 5ft long boa lol then he might warm up to snakes a little more.

Tell him your iguana could just as easily hurt your children or your husky. Yes, you have to be more careful with reptiles but all animals are dangerous.
