Whats a good book for general snake info...
I read "Snakes in Question : The Smithsonian Answer book" and found it to be pretty good, lots of basic snake info. Any of you like this one or have other reasonable suggestions? As in no WAY expensive ones.

My favorite snake book is google. The problem with published books is that as info changes or new discoveries come about...the books on your shelf remain the same. It's also nice to get varied views from multiple sources. I have a few snakes book but I never reference them for anything. I just flip through now and then and look at the pretty pictures

Pick up a cheap laptop in a pawnshop for around 100 bucks or less. An old P166 with a 56k modem is plenty fast enough for checking email, surfing etc. Just don't try to play games on it. I paid 100 bucks for an old Dell laptop a couple years ago...stuck windows 98 on it and I use it for my GPS stuff when I'm out herping and leave my 2000 dollar sony at home lol. If the Dell gets sun baked, stolen or rained on...Woopie...no huge loss...but despite it's outdatedness...it's a pretty solid little machine and perfect for vacation stuff. You can't enjoy the beach worrying about a high dollar computer in the hotel room.

I've looked a lot (I'm a school librarian- you'd think I'd be able to find one) and all I come up with are coffee table type books. You know, a page on this snake, a page on that lizard. I'm starting to think that professional journals are the way to go if we want to find anything that's really current in research.
