Need F/T pinks and small rats in small quantities
I don't think I'm ready to buy a freezer to keep a year's supply, so who do you suggest for smaller numbers (12/month)?

No year supply. You should only keep your mice\rat siceles frozen for no more than a couple of months.

I feel your pain. I would like to get different size rats, but everywhere has them in 25 to 50 count bags... one snake, feeding every week... 25 weeks thats over 6months of food. Far too long to have in the freezer. unless you repack them and seal them, then I think you can get a bit longer.
Since I got some bigger snakes now, I have decided to buy a small chest freezer to put the large rats and rabbits in but I am still stuck with what the pet store has, and that is not much

I agree with pathfinder a couple of months tops mybe three or four if you vacum seal them, I would try your local pet store or if you have to go a long ways to get some you might want to raise your own

OHH I read the post wrong. Sorry. In that size, rodent pro offers bags of either 100 or 50. That would be just right at the 50 count bag (around 4 months worth) if you vaccum seal the bag on reclose. Other than that, petshop.

Make sure when you keep your frozen mice and rats in the freezer, the members of your family dont mistaken them for chicken tenders

Obviously, I don't really want to keep a year's supply. That's why I said I was looking for a supplier in less numbers.
So, then, if that's the case, why bother with F/T if it sounds like I should just go to the local pet store and pick up feeders and pre-kill them?

I have a question on pre-killed feeders. My local Petco sells mice for 1.50 that are not kept in back but out in the open as though they are pets. The sign on the tank reads these animals are cared for by such and such a veternarian etc.
This makes me think these are safer than inbred feeders kept in a back room which nobody cares about. These mice are sold as pets too. Are these safe to feed to our snakes?

For the overall health of your snake
You can probably get a reduced rate or discount at the pet store for buying a several week to couple of months supply... whack and freeze them your self
Just don't lable them as hoagies

Most of the time, if they know your going to feed it to a snake they wont sell you "pet" mice.
Is it safer? well, any live mouse has the ability to carry some nasty buggers for your critter. Frozen at least kills a lot of those off before your snake eats it.
Just because it looks healthy does not always make it is so.
