Re: Second 'Virgin Birth' Documented in Shark
That is pretty cool. They just recently discovered that some sharks actually sleep too. Well its a good thing that we humans can't do that. Wouldn't that suck if you were engaged to a women, and trying to do the christian thing by waiting to have sex. Then one day she comes up to you and says "Honey we need to talk. I have become pregnant!" I wonder what the legal stuff on that would be. Finally Maury could do a show on something else other than "Who's My Daddy".

Re: Second 'Virgin Birth' Documented in Shark
Thats pretty sweet. I wonder why it happens? It can't be beneficial to the shark or anything, its pretty much a futile waste of energy.

Re: Second 'Virgin Birth' Documented in Shark
Actually it is helpful when populations get scarce or a group of females are isolated...either on an island, or in captivity. Komodo dragons have done it too.

Yea thats what I would assume its for, but can the offspring breed? Wouldn't the offspring be sterile if it only had chromosomes donated from one parent?
