50 Gila Monsters!
Well, I thought since it figured in the way of science I'd post this tidbit of news here.
We all know that research is always being done on our favorite lizards, snakes, turtles, etc. so that we can understand them better AND perhaps even better our own lives in the process.
I was watching an Animal Planet show (that was actually on B-Movie Monsters) that was talking about Gila Monsters. And of course since not much is really known about them a lot of people are trying to do research about not just habitat and prey items, but how they live as well.
One guy in Colorado has 50 Gila Monsters in his basement and is doing research on the habits of them. I just thought it was an astounding place to do research on them since they are natives of Arizona. We have a few crawl into backyards here.
Anyway, on a side-note (because the show was actually on the B-Movies) did you know that in the movie "The Giant Gila Monster", they actually used a Mexican Bearded Lizard? The ONLY other poisonous lizard in the world?

well coming from colorado i can tell you that it gets plenty hot around here, espesicaly if he lives in south west colo. I've been to arizona and done some herping there and was amazed how much the two states are alike during the summer. Same heats, the olny difference was the rain it rains a little more in colorado and i dont think that that would affect anything in his basement. Just my 2 cents

Actually I just thought it was amazing that research on the Gila Monster was being done so far away from it's natural habitat. I mean it actually spends 99% of it's life underground so when we see it outside, it's a rare thing.
