Are new Tank!! Check it out!

Well a few weeks ago I come in the house form going to the movies with my friends, and I see my mom on the couch with my lil bro on the laptop.
So I go see what they are looking at. They were looking at seahorses, and my mom has always liked them but never really looked into them. So she asked us if that would be something that we all wanted to do, and my brother and I both said yes! So within 2 days she went out and bought a 100 gal saltwater tank 3 pumps/filters 1 larger circulate pump all the stuff needed for the tank. Turns out she didnt need all the stuff she bought lol. But were gonna still keep it because if the seahorse thing doesn't work out.
But we have it all set up and we have a few fish in there. I will post pics later.
We have a little fish we call scooter in there, a saltwater hermit crab, and 2 other blue fish.
They were all cheap, but the guy said put these fish in to help put the chemicals in place and so far they have lived. We have to give it a month before we put seahorses in! Im so excited. Also my mom has found a place that sells proven male and female seahorse that sells them in a pair so she is gonna go with that. She wants to breed them, we will have to buy another tank to put the babies in, but it will be a fun family experience.
Well enough with the talk here are a couple pics.

My mom said she doesn't wanna put live rock in there, lol she had a good reason but i forgot.
Yea we have been told they can be tricky and we should have to many fish with them because the fish are quicker and will eat the brine shrimp and the seahorses will starve. We have been doing or research just looking around.
What we got in there is what were gonna keep in there. It looks good though.

Re: Are new Tank!! Check it out!

cool

my only suggestion, is if you want to be successful with seahorses, ONLY keep seahorses in the tank.

I worked with them for several years, and learned they do best by themselves.

maybe with some pipefish or a small goby, but no damsels, crabs, shrimp, or anything else that is an aggressive feeder

That what we were told. we have a goby in there but he stays at the bottom. we have 2 damsels in there also so should we take them out, especially one blue damsel attacks the other one.
Thanks for the help by the way.

Re: Are new Tank!! Check it out!

when the tank has been up for a few months and is fully cycled and ready for the seahorses, i'd most surely take the damsels out.

good that you picked sand for the substrate, give them plenty of things to hold onto, and a gentle current (I like the maxi jet 250lph power heads, just a nice easy flow)

Yea we were told they cant swim well so a nice current.
What about my setup does it seem okay for seahorses? if not give me some suggestions to improve it.
Thanks!

Re: Are new Tank!! Check it out!

the only thing i'd add is more vertically oriented stuff for them to hang onto (plant/vine like) but you have plenty of time to find something that will work.

we used to use culurpa or some weird plant similar to that, and the loved it.

I've also seen people use plastic "corkscrew val" plants which hold up okay in saltwater for at least a year or two.
