seahorses?
has anyone kept seahorses?
i've worked with them when i worked at Pets Plus and i aquired a workable bit of knowledge about them from my one superior there, as he's kept them and bred them for a while now.
i've been thinking about starting up a seahorse set up as my second s/w tank and was hoping for some input. it won't be for a while...but i'm just collecting other peoples experience and input.
so, any ideas or stories? favorite species or equipment, favorite coral and live rock to have in the tank... or ANYTHING really

I was once obsessed with the idea of having seahorses...and I was told by enthusiasts that it was a REAL commitment and extremely difficult to upkeep.
If you hear anything to the contrary I would love to hear whatever you uncover.

Seahorses are very delicate creatures. My friend actually just got his first pair last week after doing about 3 months of research.
I have a hard enough time with keeping all my coral alive, so I won't go near a seahorse at this point. They are beautiful animals however

First off, thanks for the link Bartman I'll have to check that out tomorrow when i have a little more time.
NicoleRussell, they are definitely a commitment and are on the difficult side. Most people i know have had poor success with their first attempts at keeping the little critters and some never had success at all. That's why I'm still researching even though I've worked with them and set up tanks for otehr people for seahorses!
natas, I hear that! Last year was a nightmare with my coral. My ex would buy all sorts of fish that would completely wreck my coral and THAT was the main problem though. He thought he was being nice by adding all these "pretty fishies" while I was away or at work (as a nice surprise) but they were ALWAYS incompatible with what I had! I got so frustrated that I switched the tank over to house an Echidna nebulosa (snowflake moray eel) that needed adoption.

this one fish shop by my friend's house used to try to keep an octopus they had gotten from a very agitated customer.
they set it up in a custom 800 gallon and the thing was true to all the stories you hear about them. it NEVER wanted to stay in it's tank. they even tried giving it all kinds of stuff to keep the thing occupied or whatever but to no avail.
i think i remember hearing about them shipping it off to a state aquarium somewhere...but who knows.
