Small Rescue in PA
Hi everyone!! I just rescued two boas from HORRIBLE conditions and I found that I enjoyed it, had the knowledge and experience to actually help them and I want to continue to help more snakes. At this time, I can't take in anything other than snakes but I hope to eventually in the future. I have experience with corns, milks, boas, burms, balls, etc. I'm not equipped to handle venomous though, sorry. If you know of anyone in the PA area that needs to rehome a snake or takes in a rescue and gets in over their head, etc etc etc. Please send them my way!! Thanks!

Re: Small Rescue in PA
We are in Central Pa, around the State College/Penn State area. What types of reptiles are you familiar with?

Re: Small Rescue in PA
Are you by any chance experienced with bearded dragons and mouth rot? I have some one that has been emailing me about a beardie that had mouth rot, but then it "cleared up" but it still has no feed drive and won't eat on it's own. She was trying to force feed it vegetables and worms by vets orders. Which makes me think her vets an idiot...cuz it should have something soft like baby food with a lot of vitamins and calcium added. But i dunno, I told her to either give it to me or find a vet that knew what they were doing. I haven't heard back from her. I'm like this is what you can do but you need a vet, it's not like I can diagnose and cure it over email. And she got mad at me...go figure.
Anyways, I will let you know if we need fosters or anything. Also, if you get any rescues in that are too much for you then you can always send them my way.
Also, I'm excited about this weekend. I'm getting a 4' blood python dropped off because the owner is too busy to give it the time it needs. I haven't really done much with the bloods so this should be fun! =)

Re: Small Rescue in PA
I sent them that link, although half of the contacts on there don't work and the links are broken. Lancaster, is unfortunately over 3 hours from me so it's not really feasible for me to make it there. But I will keep it in mind.
Yes, I do have experience with larger snakes, specifically retics, burms and larger boas. But I am by no means an expert. Life is a learning experience =P

Re: Small Rescue in PA
They don't want to give it up, as I'm assuming these vet links are for the beardie. If I had him i would take him to Alan since he's close to me, but they don't want to give him up. And i don't even know where they live, they just randomly emailed me from a different post I had made about snakes. If I do get him and someone wants to rehab him you're more than welcome to and I will meet up with you somewhere. I'm by no means an expert on the dragons and I'm short on space right now. I will keep you posted if they do decide they want to donate him to me.

Re: Small Rescue in PA
I just moved into the Northern Cambria area and have wildlife rehabilitation experience "specialising in reptiles, turtles mostly for natives" along with years of wholesaling and breeding experience with different reptiles. I have done aftercare on lisards and snakes and find with mouth rot it depends on if the bone has been affected weather the bearded will ever eat! If the mouth rot enters the jaw bone the poor guy may never eat even if the infection has been cleared up.
There is a vet in Duncansville that deals with reptiles Blair animal hospital wick one of my baby Panimanian Boas is going to monday, So far they seem to be the only herp vet I have found in the central PA area.
I may be able to do some fostering and be of other assistance to you, since State Collage is about 3 hours away we would have to meet half way if possible.
