I live in Richmond Indiana and I am interested in starting a reptile rescue. My wife has just Graduated as a Biology teacher and we would like to have a large variety of reptiles. I thought a reptile rescue would be good for her to get animals for her class as well as giving them a good home. Anyone with any help they could give would be greatly appreciated. Jason

Hi there!
This post is in the right place... the other three are not.
We all pretty much check all the forums, so you don't have to post your thread in all of them. I am going to delete all your other duplicate posts.

Now about your question:
Rescuing reptiles is a big job. There is no such thing as Too many people doing it. Most snakes and lizards that are released to a rescue have helth problems, attitude problems, and just generally problems. Because of this, most people who do rescues are very experienced individuals who are fully capable of caring for a reptile regardless of what's wrong with it. I don't know you or your level of experience, but make sure you have the time, space, and money before you take in that first rescue.
Good luck!

Arrowhead Reptile Rescue has a good write-up on starting a rescue.

Yea I already have all the necessary papers to start the non-profit. I have looked at all the rescue orgs in the area and have a good rep. with the local "Help the animals" shelter. But there are no good sources of info on herps in particular. The pet shops in the area are just in it for the money and don't really know much about the pets they sell. None of the shelters in the area mess with reptiles. I have already applied for an "Indiana captive breeders liscense". Not for breeding purposes but there are very few liscenses in Indiana that deal with exotic animals. I just wondered if there were more. Thanks for the info.

There is a lot of information on some species of reptiles in our "Care Sheets" section of this site. If you would like to know about specific reptiles, I can give you more specific info.
