Hey guys!
I just took in a rescue Ball Python. He appears to have mouth rot, scale rot, bad shed, and hasn't eaten in like 8 months. (thanks Joe/ Faze)
He was soaking him when I got there to pick the ball up. I took him home to soak him some more, for a total of about an hour. After I pulled him out I took a moist paper towel to let him crawl through to loosen up the retained shed. He has a few sores on him from the bad shed/scale rot. His mouth isn't too bad, just a small spot of mouth rot (pinhead size spot). After I dried him off I applied neosporin to the sores and his eyes (to loosen the retained eyecaps).
I'm going to take him into work tomorrow to get him checked out. Surly I'll be bring him home with antibiotics.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I took him in to see the vet and he has pseudomonis (bacterial infection). Which would coun;t for the scale rot, mouth rot, and URI. He's on a regiment of 0.1cc of Amikacin (50mg/kg), daily soaks for a half an hour, and keeping his eyes moist.
Here's some pictures of him....
him open mouth breathing
belly shot (sorry...blurry)

Well......

Bad news. I had a second opinion on this guy and we came to the conclusion that having this snake could jeopardized my whole collection. Pseudomonas can be airborn! (luckily he was inside and all my animals are outside!)
BUT!!!! When I brought him in with me today, this other doctor said it looked more like he was septic, very septic. He body was essentially rotting away. So we did what was the kindest thing to do and euthanize him.
At least now he will be able to eat, breath normally, and be beautiful in little snakie heaven!

Sorry to hear that, Kim. It still amazes me every time I hear or see of this type of neglect, how someone can let it get to this. Sorry again, but I know you made the right decision.

Aw, I'm so sorry Kim. Poor little guy, at least he's better off now, and in a better place. Still, it's hard to have to do that..........
