I got a call for a free boa today. He was taken to the breeder I buy from, by a friend of a friend, so no one really knows what happened to the guy, only that he's had it rough. It looks like either someone dropped soemthing on his head, or stepped on it. His mouth does not close properly and he breathes funny, also. otherwise, he's healthy, and has a great temperament. It's a male, around 6ft.
Not the best pic, but it gives ya some idea how his mouth doesn't close right

there's many things that could have caused that for the snake. Hopefully it can be healed up to a degree though for him. Better pics would be nice also

Good luck with him!
It's a shame that people will do things like that to their pets.

Poor Fella.......
I wouldn't go so far as to say cruelty without knowing particulars.
I have a 8 ft BCI that appears to have a smirk on his face from what appears to have been a previous injury, whether by rat bite or collison in cage with jagged furniture or what I really don't know. It has made one tiny section under a nostril appear indented which gives him a sorta smirk on his face. It's barely noticable unless you are studying his face or just extremely observant.
It doesn't affect his temperment or eating habits ... I would like to know what the origin of it is whether injury or deformity or illness yet I won't ever know from the person I bought him from.
Unless you can trace his owners you will probably never truly know either. Just too many possible explanations to call anything cruelty without knowing. I would hate for someone to see Smirk (his name) and think I had been cruel. Just trying to be fair.
Thanks.....

Actually, I know this snake was abused and neglected, by the friend who brought it in. It's 6ft and was kept in a 20L, in a nasty cage, and not fed regularly. In my book, that's cruelty. But I'm glad your bci has a great home, and I hope none of that ever happened to him

OK, an update. After a trip to the vet today, it was determined that Picasso(becaues everything Picasso painted had deformed faces) was bitten in the nose by a live rat. probably a couple of months ago. And left untreated. So the vet removed the scab from his nose, which BTW, was the size of a quarter, and now he has a big open hole where his nose USED to be. It is grossly infected, and we started the first round of antibiotics today. I say first round, because it will take 4-6 MONTHS for his nose to heal. The upper right bone in his jaw may be another matter entirely. It is also infected, and if antibiotics do not clear that up, he will have to have that bone surgically removed. The would has to be kept open and clean, and not allowed to scab over. The vet, who is GREAT, estimated his age at 5-6 yrs old, and he is only 6ft and is so underweight that you can see and feel every rib. Who knows when he last ate. Also, if he doesn't eat on his own in 2 weeks, he will have to be force-fed, and he is very thin. I am going to attempt to feed later tonight, so we'll see. the key will be if he can't smell the prey, F/T of course, then we won't be interested in eating. I hope he can smell now that the huge scab is gone. So, maybe not cruelty in intentionally hurting this snake, but cruelty nonetheless, by feeding live and letting a wound go untreated. BTW, he is very sweet, remained calm and sweet through removal of the scab, cleaning of the hole where his nose WAS, and injections. I want to beat someone up......... Well, a small victory....He ate a med rat for me this evening. He could have taken a large, but since he hasn't eaten in quite awhile, I do not want to stress him out, and maybe cause a regurge. Let's just hope he keeps it down.

Do you have an update on this poor fella since he ate last?
I feel so horrible for him! That is such a crying shame! I'm just interested in how he is progressing. Thanks!

this all sounds remarkably similar to the rescue BCI i just took in (see the post here). it is such a relief to hear that he ate, because our concern is that our girl won't be able to eat with the damage to her head. but she also has damage to her eyes. good luck with picasso, and keep us posted.
