We went to a petstore yesterday, to check it out since it is now under new ownership and you guessed.. not much improvement, not for the animals anyway....
The new owner is basically in it for a tax write off and wants to lose as much as he can, just to get it back in taxes... (makes no sense to me at all) But we asked one of the employees about the animals, their condition and their state of health etc and found out that the owner will not let them feed the daily feed animals except for twice a week... (it would costtoo much $$$ even though he is wanting to lose as much as possible... makes no sense to me...)
All the reptiles were in poior care, improper setups etc, malnourished and several cases of pure intentional neglect. For example, an adult male iguana, with a broken leg, the owner doesnt want to get it fixed since it is for sale on consignment, ALTHOUGH he was the one that caused the injury to occur.
All the lizards, leos , beardies , savanna, were welll on the way to starvation, a vieled chameleon , adult, in glass with very little ventiation, water BOWL on the floor, no drip or mist system, housed with another species (I cant recall what it was..) of lizard.
Even the furries, cats that is, when I petted them I could feel some skin issues going on with them as well.
The only thing I was really impressed with is that now they have to keep the floors and windows clean.
We did get the worst leo there, (written off as dead, hehehe) in order to try and get it healthy again.
Enough rambling... here's some pics.
So far, it's doing good, more active now that it's getting food (baby food and fresh molted mealies) pedialyte and heat. I don't have to worry about impaction as it showed GizmO yesterday that it can and will pee on ya and has left a nice sample in it's tank for us.
Hopefully this lil one will make it for us, but with most things such as this, time will tell.

Eddie, I am confused.. Don't we all here, including yourself, stress a point of NOT purchasing animals from stores that have them in diplorable conditions? We know that there are pet stores out there that will purposely KEEP pets in this state, in order for the soft-hearted humanitarian to come along and feel sorry for it. How many others have been in there since you left and did the same thing? Bought an animal that is sick, with the intentions of making it "better"? That is how they stay in business!! I know you and your abilities, Eddie, and I know that the leo will make it..but....??

That means it was slipped to us in a deli cup by a caring employee (this one hates the new owners views etc) The only thing we purchased were crix, which had just arrived and were still in the shipping box.

Oh yeah, forgot the quick update!
In just two days of hydration, the skin folds from lack of fluids are gone.
Has peed (on Gizmo) and left a choco suprise in the tank.

Hey Eddie ,just where in NC are ye ?
..and what are the stores initials and location ?
Is it A.main in Greensboro by any chance ?
Cause i pulled a Clint Eastwood (followed up with a John Wayne) on one employee there over 1 "mummified" baby beardie and 1 Leo too. While the other Leo in there was crispy but breathing,in the water bowl waiting (bone dry).
If it is LET ME KNOW ,as i plan a visit out there this weekend now.If the conditions are as deplorable as now as then? Then i will be looking for any and all ways to get them on any charges.
(Yea...I am fed up with them).
btw: Its late here and reading this took me back there all over again...

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that. On the bright side, he/she was in a caring home during their last days. At least, it was given a chance at survival, it was just too far gone.
