Well... I said that I wanted a monitor in an earlier post.
I went to pick up a breeding pair of normal leopard geckos after work at a friend of mine's work and saw the most pathetic savannah. S/He is skin and bones, mostlikely infected with parasites seeing that it was wild caught.(One of many imports that were shipped through the store) My friend took one look at me and asked if I would take it home, no charge of coarse, so I did.
O.K. So, now I will soak it in a nice warm bath. Make a mice mixture of a high protien food, that is feed to dehabilitated animals (Hills A/D), with pet tinic and mineral. And also bring her/him into work tomorrow to get a fecal done! Then, deworm accordingly. Wow, I also have to do some real hard power reading!
Any advice would be appreciated!!!
I don't want this little guy/girl to suffer the same fate as many of the sick imports that were sent to death in the freezer!
Bye for now!!
Thanks guys!
Kim
P.S. I will get some pictures this weekend!

before you start trying to "force feed" any type of protein mixture, work on the hydration first.
Also, deparasitising a already emaciated animal that has poor body weight will undoubtedly push it over the edge.
Try pedialyte,or gatorade and get some fluids in him/her, then after a few days of that, see if he will volunatarily take food.
once the animal has put on a little weight, then go for the deworming.
I only suggest this because I have gotten in shipments of savannahs and had to acclimate them before they went on to their next home.

Once hydrated, get it up to proper temps. THEN try to feed..... worked wonders for Morti's Nile Monitor

I think the savy is going to do well. Tonight when I was soaking him he started to try to bite the water while the sink was filling. (After he drank well) It was cute. I think I might offer him some food tomorrow. See if he'll eat.
Thanks again!

Today I offered him some of the food mixture and he sucked down about 10 cc of it. He has held it down. I got some pictures.
