Please visit this site and help overturn a new VA law that regulates the keeping of rescue reptiles in the home.

As much as it effects everyone in the longrun ...kinda ...Noone outside of Va is going to have any say so, so it should be addressed to the members living in Va. It appears to be directed at the puppy people.....honestly, do you think they really care who is out saving the snakes?

HI,
there are two rescue Facilities i know that may not acceptt and addtional reptiles one in Richmond, and another in Chesapeak va, All the IGGies and Boa's that are not adopted will end up at animal control. both were run from their homes ,, the topic is in this months Reptiles MAg page 9 under Legal
... Va has very aggressive regulation concerning animals.. Both of the rescue stations are no longer accepting reptiles.... Welcome to the common wealth.. yes they are going to persue this...

That's pretty crappy....they could have given them time to get the proper permit or to relocate the animal....I would be at holy war with animal control if they did that to me. I would be calling every 5 minutes and sending them on wild goose chases...telling them that there is a loose badger running around town... a baboon at the capitol building...(that part is actually not such a stretch on the truth LOL)

Doug.....
Can you get me information on the two rescue places you are referring to???
I would be interested in talking to them about helping or donating.

Which shop had the Caiman?

HI,
I am glad you asked , I found the article in this months reptiles magazine on page 9,
a MR Craig Burak founder of VA Beach Reptile Rescue was quoted as saying he may have to reconsider due to the new Law he averages 30 -100 animal rescues a year..
Another was Bonnie Keller of Richmond, she rescues an average of 50 a year, a school teacher who works part time to help pay for some of the rescues ,will limit her rescues to only 6 per year ..
The petStore mentioned had this problem last year and wishes to not be named, he tried to pursue the issue but the animal control didn't have the facilities for the creature and the zoo didn't want another animal at the time,,by the time he reached animal control the animal was gone.
I had no clue about the new law and only disscovered it while reading my reptiles mag. heck ,,IVE RESCUED 6 reptiles this year my self..Sick pythons and turtles...and I dont care much for the pythons....I just hate to see them foaming in the mouth thats got to be a pain...
I am sorry if this a negative conutation but I have seen some things get a little out of hand here in VA.....

It's a shame that the Commonwealth has to pull stuff like that!

As far as the rescues go.... let me know if I can help. I am willing to take the chances! I can take and permanently house BCI's and smaller breeds and would be willing to temporarily house larger ones if extensive rehab is not needed!

Let me know if I can help!

Doug... by the way do you know of any local, VB or Ches, herp clubs... or would you want to join forces with myself and my sister and start one locally? A couple of people at the local shops had expressed some interest if we got one going. Maybe all of us teaming up can make some type of difference!!!!
