Well my friend got a nice surprise when he went to put on his boots over the weekend. There was about a 2.5 foot long redtail in one of them. He said he didn't touch them for like 6 months. I just sold my redtail since it was getting big and I got a new puppy. (didn't want anything to happen) Since I still had everything I took the snake to try to save it. This is my first attempt at any type of snake rescue so if I missed anything let me know.
I have the tank all set up.. temps are find. I put water in both ends and as soon as I put the snake in he went right for the water. he looked and felt VERY de-hydrated. He lost a lot of body weight. you could see loose skin and feel his backbone. So i got a adult mouse and he took it right away. I was worried he wouldn't eat. This morning about 48 hours later he is a bit for up beat it looks like.
I also used this stuff I had that you spray on and it gives them vitiams and such. So I did that also. Is there anything else I should do for the first week that I missed?
thanks

Sounds good, but you can forget about the vitamin sprays, they are almost useless.
Better to go with supplements on the food, such as a calcium mix.
And you can also give it pedialyte, either straight or mixed 50/50 with wtare to drink and soak in.
And welcome to Redtail.

take it down to the city and turn it loose in the sewer so it can grow 4 times it's normal maximum size and eat the giant gators living down there.

That's odd for New York. I live in Buffalo and the only "wild" snakes I have ever seen were Garter(sp?) snakes. I hope all goes well!!
