This snake was picked up the past couple days. It has MAJOR retained sheds, dehydrated, underweight and malnourished also. Was being fed only a couple of mice every so often.. had hardly any water when we picked it up in it's cage, no humidity at all and no substrate either in the cage. Had a heat rock though..UGH.
That's all we know at this point though. Have to take a closer look at it tomm. Could be worse I guess. The snake is about 6 years old btw. Should be much LARGER than this though. Good thing though.. it is friendly no doubt,,, even though we were told it was not. Prolly was just hunger is why it always struck out at people.

Male or Female? Pretty freakin close to circleback Lori...one of your favorites....congrats and good luck.....Doesn't look TOO bad off...at that size/age, they are pretty easy to snap back into shape.

LOL.. Ya know Juls ..I didn't even notice that on it at all Was busy with the "getting the shed off and rehydrating things for it atm. I don't know.. was told male , but ya know how that goes [ esp coming from someone who hadn't a clue how to care for it even..UGH] Yeah I don't see any problem getting it up to par at all really myself. certainly not one of the worst we have taken in here at all IMO.

Lori... where in the world do you keep coming up with these snakes and negligent owners?????
I guess it's a good thing that I dont do rescue... I would be in jail for assault on the first one!
Keep me in mind for anything you have or need down here in VA

Stormyva unfortunately the neglegent keepers are a dime a dozen. It almost makes you think that the GOOD herp keepers are the minority. Adoptions and rescues all over the country are loaded with snakes like this. It usually starts at a poor quality pet store that knows nothing about the animals care, and they pass their wealth of information to the pet buyer.
We just hope the new pet buyer finds a group like us to set them straight. Unfortunately some are pig headed and they deside that we are nuts and to trust the information of the pet store, who we all know is the TRUE professional.

Like ed_r said.. they are a dime a dozen..or even cheaper than that sometimes...UGH.
The rescues I take in come from all different aspects actually. Some are from shipments to reptile shops from breeders [ one would think that at least breeders would keep their stock better..arghh BUT I have seen some pretty bad off in shipments when the shipments arrived at a shop and I was there atm even. Guess some are just in it for the money is all even in the reptile world AND these breeders are people most think are great with husbandry etc of their reptiles..UGH] , a lot of them are just dropped off at reptile and/or pet shops and they won't take em in for valid reasons to keep at the shop while rehabbing, some are contacts from various SPCA's/ shelters, some from other rescuers who get contacted in regards to the animals and are not in the area like I am where they live and others are through direct contact from the owners themselves once they finally realize that they can not care for the reptile any further for whatever reason... and of course there's always the calls from the herp associations that I get also in regards to taking in reptiles that need new homes and/or rehabbing. Just about from any source basically is what/where they come from.

good luck getn him back up to par. I agree w/stormy if i had to see how some people cared for their animals I'd be in jail for assult too. Sonetimes I watch animal rescue on animal planet and it just makes me so mad. Saw 1 the other day where this lady threw a bunch of puppies wraped in a garbage bad in a trash can. I don't know how people can be so cold and heartless. Well anyway best of luck with the rehab. !!
