We got called in today for these two boas. Both came from the same person. This is the first one....
Full body shot, has a striped tail GREAt temperament...
This is what it's major problem is that is going on atm.
More pics of this one are in this
album
This is the second one. It has more variety of problems going on than the other one does. It has an RI, dehydrated, underweight, some rostril damage, retained shed including an eyecap also and still checking this one over still even. Oh yeah it also has a "lump" on it's body that I am still trying to get a better look into. I have already found some wood shavings within it though..UGH.
album
Been a busy day to say the least

I honestly don't know how you do it lori, I see those and my eye's get blury. The fact that people let an animal reach that state is unbelievable. I would not have the temper to meet some of these people face to face.

Well the person who owned these two I never met. The two were dropped off at a shop like this in the same pillowcase and we were called to come get em and see if we could rehab them. I had just gotten back from the vet with the IGuana that had surgery this week that we have in rescue when we got the call for these ones.

Happens a lot here also.

If anyone has already asked this, I'm sorry. Lori, Do you take donations? I know after the surgery you just paid for, you said you were pretty short. I think you do such a great thing I would like to send you alittle (dont have much myself) but I would like to help this way since I don't really have the experiance to actually rescue the animals myself.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Every time you post rescue pics it amazes me even more!
The sad thing is if someone let a cat or a dog get to that state the police and/or SPCA would be all over them!
If I can ever do anything to help you or anyone that handles rescue let me know!!!!

I'm sorry Lori...I didn't want to undermind your abilities...I'm sure anything I tell you will just reinforce what you are already probably doing...but....just in case....this is what I would do..
The first snake needs an immediate course of antibiotics (baytril 10mg/kg) every other day for 4 shots....or at the very least 3. A topical ointment (teramycin, or neosporin) on the nose 3 times a day....I can't tell from the photo if anything is going on inside the mouth...possible debriding of stomititis cheese crusties...and any number of stomotitits swabs (anticeptic-diluted...peroxide....very diluted betadine....or that novasol(sp?) stuff....I have some in an unmarked bottle but never can remember the exact spelling lol) anyway.... I don't know what all other symptoms there are....breathing ok?
Second snake needs immediate rehydrating...soaking 24/7 in pedialyte (full strength) for up to 3 days ....just make sure he doesn't get cold. I know this sounds like a long soak....but if you have ever had one with mites and I know you have....they do it on their own sometimes so they can take it. Once rehydrated offer a small meal right away...if he refuses...tube feed. He is starved and needs nutrition asap....again....any other symptoms? breathing etc?
that thermal burn on his back....is that fresh or a scar? treat as needed with neosporin if it's fresh.

Wouldn't think that of ya Juls.
On the first one. He [ dont know sex actually though] doesn't have stomatitis going on in the mouth from what I am seeing. His mouth, inside is clean. Go figure. But that's ok none the less anyways. The rostril seems to have been "pushed" upwards to the extent that it is now somehow. I know that sounds weird but I would think that if it was relative to stomatitis that he would have it going on in his mouth big time from what the rostril looks like now. I doubt that he was treated for it if he had it.. and not something I have ever seen to just go away on it;s own even. I have never seen a snake before that just "scraped" it's rostril area to this extent on the caging etc either. So thinking that's not how/what happened either. Could have been a rat bite that got out of hand possibly. Prolly never know anyways what led to this rostril being like this anyways. Just centering on "fixing it up" best as can be done is all now.
Yeah got him on Baytril atm and also have been using the novalson to clean the area and then applying the triple anti to it afterwards. He just shed today.. nice clean shed even. Going to try a feed on him tomm. I think also now. Maybe he'll take it.. Yeah he breathes fine.. np's there with him at all. Well excluding the rostril affects and having no nostrils that is.
The second one.. Definately has an RI no doubt ! I have him on baytril also for the RI.
[ running out of the stuff also..argh] YEAH have had him [ again sex is actually unkown] in looong saoks.. I actually place a heating pad under the tote to try and keep the water a bit on the warmer side. Doesn't heat it really, just helps to keep it from getting too cooled off to soon is all.
That "thing" on his back I am still checking out some. It is not fresh at all though. Still trying to figure out if it is a growth or an atachment to his back side basically. I found some wood chips mingled in with the top layer of it on the side and removed em np. BUT It appears as though it may actually be attached and not grown from [ make sense at all?] Looking for my scalpel to get a better look at it on the top upper most layering basically now even. Seems to be something that is not part of his body even from what I am seeing at this point. Really weird is about it atm. YES definately needs some nutrition to say the least and will work on that once he's more rehydrated.

UGH.. Knew it was coming most likely.. We lost the second snake pictured here on Friday.
The first one is doing fine it seems atm though. The rostril is starting to heal over now. I haven't been able to get it to eat as yet, but it is not majorly underweight so hopefully that won't be a problem in short time for it at all. I think it is with the rostril being the way it is might be why it won't eat. Couldn't imagine that being majorly confortable at all.
Think we may have narrowed it down as to just what might have happened to cause the rostril to become like this alo. If the snake was kept in a wire type cage and the snake was trying to get out..it could have tried to "plow" it's way out and pushed the rostril back like it is. That's about all we can come up with that may have caused such a thing for this snake. AND YES, there are people who think you can keep a snake in a wire cage.. nothing ceases to amaze me in stuff like that anymore at all. Hopefully this one will pull through though np.
