When it comes to picking up/receiving "one of those types" of rescues. I am on an Ig list and tonite received an email that linked through to another rescuer for Iguanas and the information pertaining to a certain rescue they had taken in. WARNING: The pictures on this page link are EXTREMELY graphic in detail !!! I really think I would NOT have been able to "hold" myself back from saying something in regards to this one were it one of my calls to say the least. cwm23.gif
This was NOT just a case of "being bored/lost interest" in the reptile or could no longer care for it.. It was ABUSE & CRUELTY to say the least towards an animal.
Here's the link : ANIMAL ABUSE

I, for one, am undescribably SICK and ANGRY (for lack of better words)!!!!! The thought that this happens makes me take a second look at every buyer getting aherp for their kids. Sometimes I miss the days of public flogging! I am sorry that anyone who reads this post has to see this type of cruelty. But it is the reality of our world. This simply illustrates why a public forum of this type is neccessary. WE MUST EDUCATE!

On a personal note, bring the parents here. I have a few animals that will return the favor.

This makes me sick.
Are any charges of cruely being filed against the mother and father of the kid? From the looks of the pics you know they had to know what was going on and that makes them just as responsible as the child. Oh how I'd like to show them how it feels to be on the receiving end of something like this. I am with Brian on the public flogging. That might just make some people think twice before doing such a terible thing.

I can not express my anger

On another note.... I was kind of disappointed when I followed the "make animal cruelty a felony" link. The case they made for changing the punishment was: kids that abuse pets and get away with it can grow up to abuse other people. I agree this should be stopped. But I believe a more important issue is the hurt, dismemberment, and death that they cause the animals. However I thought animal cruelty was a felony already..... I guess it depends on how severe and where you are I guess. Whatever the punishment, I've never heard of an animal cruelty case where I thought the punishment was fit for the crime. The laws are way to lenient in this area. I believe if you kill an animal for fun, amusement or anything along those lines you should do time in prison, straight up. I honestly believe the death penalty is warranted for very extreme cases. HA! Like that would ever happen. -Juggalo

that is very disterbing. If u cant care for an animal at least try to find it a home, if its gravly ill pit it down , but there is just no excuse for that. A 12yr old is old enough to know that isnt right and the owner let it happen. I am sadned and shocked that someone would do that to a living thing

It amazes me that parents would allow something like this to happen and that the kid would do something like that in the first place. The child and parents all need some serious help and a public flogging!

I for one am glad it was not myself that got the call for this one.
It would have made the news under a manslaughter headline.

It depends largely on your state and local laws, also what type of animal it is on whether it's a misdemeanor or a felony.

If it was a furry kitten or puppy then you can bet it would be all over every paper for the next two years but since it's an eveil reptile, it will probably not get too far with court.

I hate being the devils advocate in a situation like this. And I'm not about to read further because those pics are very disturbing.
Not sure if the abuse to the poor iggy was done all at once or over time?
I know you will all say what is the difference, but theres a big difference. If it happened over time then I fully agree the parents should be held accountable for the damage done.
But if it was done all at once by the child, there is no way the parents could have seen it.

Mental illness is a very complex situation. Many people see animals as a wonderful source of therapy for people with disorders.
My son is autistic and the animals are very good for him. On the same token I never let him handle them alone, and cages are always locked.
We don't know the level of functionality of the child, or for that matter if the child is really to blame. For all we know one of the parents could have done this and blamed the child.

Again I may be way off here, and like I said I really couldnt get past the pics to read further.
This is a very tradgic event and now thankfully the iggy is at peace.

My .02 is that all psychologists and social workers know that when a child abuses an animal that they are 10 times more likely to commint murder in their lifetime. So, not only is that child borederline evil, but we will probably pay for him in jail very soon.

I sure hope that kid gets taught a lesson!!!
i argree that kids that get away with hurting/killing animals as kids grow up a lot of times to be those murderors or rapists.

I hope that poor animal can get the right medical attention!

Very disturbing pictures. I agree with Ed though. Not really enough information to know whether the child or it's parents should be responsible. Either way, it was wrong and insane what happened to the poor Iguana.
