Sorry Lori did not see that you mentioned the ASPCA in that other post. I was so flabbergasted that someone could so severly neglect an animal. Maybe our local armed security guard Eddie can go pay those idiots a visit!!!!
Has anyone seen the show on Animal Planet... something like the ASPCA or something like that. The show the SPCA in New York they actually are gun carrying "police" they can make arrests! IF more areas did that I think there would be a LOT less situations like this one.

Most likely for personal protection from the scuzzballs that they deal with there...
Amazing that NYC has pretty much banned all citizens from legally owning things covered by the second amendment in the name of crime reduction yet with an unarmed , safe city, the crime rate is soaring to new highs every day......

She had no idea what I was talking about even I informed her that I do NOT do vens and if it was one.. I'd have to get someone else to come out for it. 'Course soon as I saw it was a BOA.. I told her so and she asked.. Is it something you can handle?" UGH </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
Hmm.. I need to clarify what I am refering to here a bit. [ Thanx for pointing that out Jim !]
The snakes were owned/abandoned by what is known as the b/f in this whole picture. The woman I am refering to in the above statement is the g/f's mother. The g/f's parents are the ones that are the reason that any/all contact was made in order to get some help to the snakes concerned here at all. They are the ones that also met up with us to let us into the apartment where the snakes were located as well. Their daughter from what I understand used to live with the b/f and doesn't anymore and from what we know the b/f abandoned the snakes and the apartment as well. It was definately an abandoned apartment from what we saw. The parents were handling things as far as "cleaning up , turning in the keys etc" for the apartment. They were left with a predicament due to their daughtter's relationship [ that seemed to come to an end for some reason] and just as any parent would do in such a situation, were trying to "clean things up" for their child that were related to a relationship gone bad. From what we understood, the b/f left and the g/f was left with the apartment and snakes that she was afraid of and had no clue what to do with them at all. That IMO is the b/f abandoning the snakes no doubt ! He knew noone would be taking care of them at all once he did that no doubt about it ! They even tried to get the b/f to come back and take care of the snakes from what we had been told and as you see.. he didn't. These people had no clue at all what to do [parents]. Shelters and a/c they contacted told them that they didn't take snakes in or that they would just euthanize the snakes from what the parents told us. They did contact the spca from what they told us and [ now I do not know if I actually beleive this one at all , but...] said that they were told to just let the snakes go in the woods there. they said that they thought that was not a good idea and also that they were basically afraid of the snakes and weren't going to touch them at all. SO that was not an option for them even.
Hope that clarifies the situation more so....

Stormyva, the show is called Animal Precinct. There is another one in Detroit that is by the (I think) Humane Society, don't remember the name of that one, though. But both shows are the same.... officers going out and taking the animals away and sometimes arresting the owners for neglect/abuse.

He/she..It lol is doing much better now. We have managed to get just about FULLY rehydrated at this point with the burm. The mites are gone now.. Just waiting to make sure that there are no eggs that go and hatch out at all and cause a reinfestation on the burm at all. tehn next we'll be working on getting some weight put on the burm. there also is some degree of scale rot going on but we have most of that.. the majority of it under control now as well. Really waiting on a shed to see just how well we are doing in this area also now. Here's some pics of the burm that I took the other day...Ok.. My pics sux I know..lol
Here's a head shot of the burm...ya can actually notice that the major dark area that was on my first set of pics [ mite infestation] is actually gone now YAY!!
These pics were taken a few days back.. The snake just shed out yesterday am one HUGE full shed piece even.. Very nice.. and looks even better now..colorwise. Will grab new pics after shed now also. A lot of the scale rot went with the shed also which is great.

Such a sad story.
With all the talk about education and qualifying people before selling them animals...I have to say that in our business we make those efforts and it DOES make a difference.
While the sales that we make over the internet are a little more complicated, I can honestly say that not ONE animal has shipped out without at least a dozen emails back and forth and 2 phone calls. Have we lost business because of it? I don't think so. People don't start off wanting to be lazy with an animal.....they simply get caught up in the moment and then have nowhere to turn when it gets too difficult. Getting involved with them and teaching them while they're still in that pumped up "I want an animal" stage can be very effective, and following up with them is crucial.
With local sales, a basic husbandry book is included as our "gift" to first time owners. We hold classes (for free) on how to clean tanks, how to feed, how to handle, etc. Our customers have email addresses for us, home phone numbers, and pagers. They are all referred to a local reptile vet for reference. We've gone so far as to go to their homes if the animal isn't doing well after they get it home.
Yes, on the whole this takes a huge investment of time and money...but to do it any other way would not be doing it CORRECTLY and if we can't do it CORRECTLY we won't do it at all.
Can people educate employees? Of course they can. The money they would save on sick animals would more than cover the expense. Why the big pet chains don't do it is beyond me. I have gone into pet stores and found DEAD ANIMALS in tanks......sick animals with healthy ones.....and employees trying to tell a would-be customer that a burmese is a great pet for their 8 year old. One even tried to tell me that they had a Ball Python at home that was 12 feet long. *sigh*
We can't change the world overnight, but we can make a difference every day.

Stormy.. I never would have thought this was the same animal even myself. the pics do no justice for her/him either. I thought for sure that with it eating turkey drumsticks that we would have a major problem getting feed taken by this one for sure. It held out on us for a short time but I have it taking rodentia from me now np. In fact if I get bit handfeeding, I could see this one to be the one that gets me ..UGH. This snake feeds like it is starving and hits hard too. It'll be ready for a new home in no time now. It has been hissing at us when we open the cagew for the last few days but I think that is/was from it just letting us know that it has decided to eat the rodentia now is all ..LOL
