Last friday the guys here at work called me down to the parking lot. There was a green iguana, 1 foot SVL or so, seems healthy, sitting in the parking lot between the cars. They tell me it has been around for quite a while (months). She/he is probably an escape or a release, since they are not natural to here and seem fairly tame, allowed me to even touch her tail.

Before I could decide to grab her she bolted for a tree and got very high. When I left for home it was still up there. This is a corporate park with lots of trees and a small pond/fountain. We have lots of anoles (some quite large), but green iguanas are NOT natural to this environment. Around us are streets, apartment buildings and traffic.

Now, the question is : should I try to catch it or leave it? My concern is that a car will run her over eventually. She lays on the tar to sun herself behind or in front of the cars. Somebody is just not going to notice and... squash. I am not sure what I would do with her. I still have the one male (he owns the balcony of my apartment ) and would have to get/build a cage. But it would be better than "squash", no? I know most adoption groups are filled with iguanas, so placing her will be almost impossible. I am moving to the house in the next few weeks and will have plenty of space to keep her.

Not sure what to do...

(Any good ideas on an Iguana "trap", or how to catch her?? Towel/Blanket over her seems the best approach, if I can get her while in the ground, right?)

I've heard that Fla has a large wild iggy population now due to the released pets and thier breeding ....

But I also realize that it needs to be out of there since the new introduced species, the iggies, can decimate the indigenous species in the area.

May be just one, but one will be a lot less in the future, future babies that is.

That is the case in parts of Florida from what i have heardalso. BUT none the less... it is NOT an indigenous specie to where it is located atm. Many factors come into play like Eddie has said already here. IMO.. I would suggest trying to catch it if possible. Doing such would eliminate many different things, including like you said the "squash" factor that could come about possibly. You say you'll have the room in a couple weeks to even keep it hehe. Might even take you that long to catch it even..lol. As for how to "trap" it ?? Hmm.. Sorry I couldn't offer more than what you have come up with thus far on that one. It let you near it once, maybe you'll get another chance to 'grab it" again. Just be prepared to contain it is all if you do. GL catching it.

No luck so far.

Twice we see her n th eparking lot, but she got wiser and by the time I get close she is up a tree, out of reach.

The good news : by the size of the piles of poop, she is eating VERY well. Looks very healthy, agile and fast. Great colors. So, no big hurry.

The bad news : people are starting to complain about the piles of poo by the cars. I am afraid the building management might decide to eliminate the "pest"...

I have make sure they know to contact me in case they need a pickup if somebody captures it or whatever.
