Ok.. So it's not a reptile BUT Def needs some help anyway. One of the neighborhood cats, usually it's one of mine that would hunt em down, but wasn't this time, has this lil critter in it's mouth. The kids managed to get it out of the cat's mouth before any really extensive damage could be done to it. It basically has bites on both sides of it's head that don't look to be too bad really.
I am NOT a bird person so..
What type bird is this ?
How old is it even ? I beleive it is quite young none the less anyway.
What can be used for the bites it has ?
What does it eat ? AND How should it be given to it ? [ no wise cracks about chewing worms and letting the bird eat outta the mouth thank you either ! lol]

I know we have some wildlife rehabbers here from NC that know their birds also. So give me a heads up here would ya please
a/c says they would just have it put down is all. Guess wild birds are of no value SPCA says the same thing also. So how about someone helping me to give it a chance here ?
This is the bird...
thids pic is true to it's color also btw...

That's a child's hand holding it btw in second pic.

there was another bird also , but too late..dang cat killed it already AND I could ID that one even.. was a parakeet.. Think I can tell the neighbor what happened to their pet bird/parakeet now

Looks like a common sparrow to me...

As for rehabbers, well, I haven't seen Barry in a while so you may want to email him about it.

nowhere near a Blue Jay.....

Reminds me of the time my mom and I 'rescued' a baby bird from a pet store. They had the poor thing in with the Zebra finches. He was terrified even tho he was twice their size. We get it home and set up a cage for the lil one. He seemed very uncomfortable in it, too. We were trying to figure out exactly what kind of bird it was. I had him on my finger and was saying "awwwwww, ain't you cute...." but only got as far as "Awww....". He jumped into the cavern that was my mouth!! My mom snapped her fingers and exclaimed, "He's a Cliff swallow!" and proceeded to laugh hysterically as I sat there with a baby bird trying to climb further in, with a death grip on my lower lip. Well, we raised him up until he was big enough to go free......

Either a Sparrow or Swallow. Either way, I'd get some meal worms for him.....good luck with him Lori. Hope he gets better for you!

The bird needs to go to a vet and get anitbiotics for the cat bite ASAP. You did say the bird had bite marks on it. More times than not a bird will die without antibiotics because cats saliva has bacteria that will kill the bird. Some vets will do what is needed at no cost to you for wildlife so look and call around to find one.

I dont know what kind of bird it is but it looks to be a fledgling. It was prolly out learning to fly and honing it's skills when the cat came along. It will find and eat food on it's own at this stage. You can keep it in a box and place worms, crickets and seed in there with it. Give it a shallow bowl of water in the box also.
