new rescue boa
well i got another one.the call came in yesterday after i got off work.it is a 6 ft boa .the person who had it bought it from a drug house(tweekers).he bought it to get it out of the living siduation it was in.it has been very abused .it has a good size knot on its side where someone kicked it.it has resperitory and some pretty severe mouthrot.very thin.hasnt ate for at least 6 months.he was feeding live food and the snake would kill it but couldnt eat it.his mouth is in really bad shape.he is very very very aggressive.i have delt with nasty snakes before but this is bad.when not held behind the head he strikes and releases repeatedly and even when holding him behind the head he still longes and strikes.in the tank he is quiet as long as the tank is covered with a blanket so he cant see out.when he can see out he hisses one time after another and strikes at the glass one time after another.it will be easy to treat him his mouth is always open.i find it so sad.this boa wasnt born hating and being scared of people.i hope in time after heat, meds, food, security he will come around and quite drawing blood.i can only afford to loss so much.(joking).keeping him covered will hopefully give his mouth a chance to heal with treatment.the striking at the glass has tore it up.

It always has amazed me as to how cruel humans can be to lower animals. It just seems to be a never ending cycle with some individuals. Get an new animal, treat it badly and then get another when it dies. I hope that he comes through this ok and I wish you the best of luck with him. It just hurts my feelings every time I see a post like this. Every time I sell a snake to someone that I don't at least know from one of the forums I go to, I alway wonder if it is being treated right and is doing ok. I just can't seem to seperate myself from them in that way. All the people that I sold my last baby boas to have all gotten e-mails every couple months asking how the snake is doing. Maybe I just need to learn to let go. LOL!

there is no learning to let go.i still talk to all the people who took my baby balls.the difference between this snake and all the others is when you get a rescue and asses it you have a good feeling about where you stand.you know mouthrot treatable,ri treatable, thin an easy fix,shy fine with alittle socializing.with this snake everything seems an easy fix,but the aggression is so severe.i have alot of snakes and have had alot more come through here and this is the worst yet.my son is scared of her.he can hear him hiss from across the house.he has never been scared of any of them.i guess the worst case would be that in the end ill add this boa to my personal keeper list.

I feel so sick to hear things like that... it makes my stomach turn and I want to hide in a hole underground and never come out again. But then in the middle of all the suffering it appears a good soul to fix things. That's what makes me keep going... maybe our species isn't so hopeless and nasty.

You are doing a great job, just have patients and give this guy some time. He doesn't want to be mean, but he's scared, hurting, and not sure when the next bad thing is coming. He just needs time to learn that your not the bad guy, and that he is safe with you. He may not end up being the must trusting of snakes but I'm sure he will get better. Just hang in there.
